I was reading the users guide on this unit.

It appears that I plug my servos into the unit, but then I must also supply 5 outputs from my receiver to the 5 inputs to the unit so I will need 5 servo extensions to do this?

My receiver pins are going to take female end of servo cable, but it also looks like the ap2000i also has pins so it wants female end also?

I must be missing something. Does it come with its own cables to connect to your receiver?

Thanks,

Scott

It is actually 4 connections between the receiver and AP-2000i. Ail, Ele, Pitch and Aux (on/off/gain). The cables to connect it to the receiver are supplied.

Hi Angelos, will the 2000i work with Bergen intrepid gas Mech mixing.
1 servo for Ail. 1 servo for Elevator
Sorry for the dumb question.
Just want to make sure before I order
I have the co-pilot IR sensor but look forward to your Inertial sensor.
Thanks

Yes, just use the S-1 swashplate type.

The AP-2000i should be able to support any model on the market... and if anything new shows up we can easily add it and you can update your device via USB.

Angelos, Thanks for the quick reply.
I just ordered the 2000i, USB cable and the Sensor cable, even though your site listed it as Out of stock. So looks like I'm on the waiting list.
Thanks again

Angelos,

Man you guys reply fast. That is good to see(people actually supporting their customers), I think I am getting ready to order one.

One question,

Does the unit support any failsafe?

Let's say I was flying with the units stabilization off, and had radio loss, can the unit be setup to (in the event of signal loss) turn the stabilization back on and maintain stabilization until the radio signal returns?

The FMA units had a failsafe setup where you could do that.

If your units don't do that today, you could add it as an option and update via firmware update?

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,
This is done by setting the failsafe of your PCM receiver to turn on the AP-2000i at the desired gain. I have my Joker 2 set up to turn on the stabilisation, centre rudder, drop pitch to -1deg and switch off the motor. This should get the helicopter to decent at the slowest possible rate and hopefully it will minimise the amount of damage.

I personally don’t like or condone the idea of keeping engine on when the model is in failsafe. The helicopter could fly very far away and endanger people and possibly cause a lot more damage.

Thanks Angelos,

Duh, I should have thought of that about the Rx telling the unit to turn on stabilization.

I am liking this thing more and more.

Looks like you're out of stock though so I guess I will have to wait.

Just wanted to verify from the specs, this unit weighs less than 1 ounce right?

Oh yeah Angelos,

Do you have a targeted price for your new inertia sensors?

We have not coasted the components yet at large quantities but I hope that the inertial sensotr will not be more than GBP 350.

Our initial target was to have AP-2000i with inertial sensor and USB cable less than GBP 500.

Have you actually tested a unit with inertial sensors? What type of results?

Are there plans for a barometric altitude lock feature at some point? Is a GPS position lock going to be in the works? Don't get me wrong, I believe you are offering a great value with what you have, just speculating ahead a bit. I would place altitude lock as a priority over GPS position lock if I had to choose between the two.
Thanks,

Eric

Angelos,

A couple more questions.

I have an FMA copilot. You are suppose to calibrate it over the coldest thing you will fly over so that it does not get confused as to what is sky and what is earth.

Since no calibration is required of the ap2000i, how does it handle flying over different types of terrain. You are using the fma sensor, so you are just looking at an IR differential right?

i.e. if I fly over a parking lot that is hot from the sun, and then fly over some grass, or snow on grass, the latter would be cooler, how does the ap2000 handle this, could it possibly see the snow on grass as being the sky since it is cooler than the parking lot?

Just trying to understand how yours works, and what makes it better than the copilot?

Thanks,

Scott

Angelos,
I was wondering if you had an idea of when units will ship. I ordered one a few days ago and was curious as to an arival estimate. I am realy anxious to try the unit out after all the good things that have been said about it here. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,

DB

On Sunday I did a fligh comparison with the Hirobbo Gasser using the old CP4 co-pilot that so many satisfactions give me along this years and the Maxi Joker2 stabilized by the CP4 IR sensor and the AP2000i unit (updated to the last firmware available). This flight test was done in order to know how fine each unit work using the same scenario , day and wind/IR/temp conditions.
The results couldnīt be more definitive. Flying the Joker was a pleasure as always, but increased by the stabilizer. It was set to be turned ON with a 3 position switch and adjusted by ATV (OFF/50%/67%) Never arrived to the max gain limit but the 67% was confirmed as a nice value to give a more than noticeable stabilization and allowing enough manual control to make the Joker fly at a high speed. Releasing the stick centered the unit leveled the Heli instantly. Again, there is no way to stop the heli (itīs not designed to do that) but I was so confident with it I landed several times using Pitch only and no one glitch or false heli shackes appeared even doing it at an unsafe distance of only four meters from me.
After that flight, the crude gasser was flown. The co-pilot worked fine, as it always did, but itīs not as accurate, not as soft and not as fast. Much more manual control imputs are neccesary with this system to make the heli move in some parts of the flight. Itīs not working bad but I know itīs a fight between old and new technologies. An old heli with an old firmware stabilizer vs. a spearhead heli aided with a new and more elaborated firmware.
One suggestion Angelos. Is there a way to set a delay to the gain channel so it takes one second to pass from OFF to a new gain value or vice versa so the system can proportionaly modify its gain value along this time? This way you can use higher gain values and turn the system on even at high speed flights and more radical heli attitudes without fear to make a very aggressive attitude correction to get the heli leveled.

Glad to hear the review Elossam. I have a question; Saw Angelos' five or ten second video clip where the heli is 5 feet off the ground and trees behind him are about 25 feet high. How does the IR sensor keep it level when elevated trees may appear to be an elevated horizon and tilt away? As far as my use, I would only be depending on it at higher altitudes where trees and buildings do not impact it. Do we have any video footage from an onboard camera avail on the AP2000?

Also have the source of the failsafe and glitch problems that used to be reported with the FMA system been identified? I hear that this AP2000 unit with the FMA sensor is not causing people problems so interference is likely limited to the FMA reciever or lousy FMA connectors on the receiver??

no problems with glitching and the ap2000i. the problems are direcly related to the FMA receiver when using the co-pilot.

Angelos

did you ever consider to give some kind of adapter to use the unit with 2 gy240 or 401 gyros? Using the unit for ccpm and for remote on/off stabilization. I know that you are working on the inertial unit but it looks that it's not going to be ready soon. Or this could be a second cheaper choice. I really do not like the IR thing, all I would like to have is a platform that keeps stable for some 10-20 seconds with slow drift, just the time for the cameraman to frame some good pictures and possibly a platform that could make a 360° pano turn with out the problem related to IR.
Maybe some others out there have the same need.

thanks
