I am having a world of problems with my Hummingbird and its just dawned on my that I havn't fitted the 'Horizontal Tail Fin' as it wasn't included the box!

Is this item for show, or does it add anything aerodynamically?

the purpose of the tail fin is so when you are flying forward the tail will "weathervane" and make it ezer to fly. if you are only hovering other than weight it doesnt add much. i dont have one on my HB but i am only hovering yet.

Hi jweaver, the horizontal tail will make no noticeable to the way your HB flies. It is there mainly for aesthetic and orientation reasons.

Hi jw,

For easy flying the fins, have no purpose outside of asthetics. If you're flying outside the vertical and horizonal fins help with visually helping you to know the orientation of the bird. Since you are not gonna be going wild with this, I would not worry about it.

Asthetically you can fashion your own out of a black CD jewel case, they do look kinda cool.

Cheers,
Leslie

The sizes of the h' fin on the machine is for appearance only. If you were into fast forward flight you would need a larger one to help it fly level. On my FAI IC machines, the h'fins really help them groove in level flight.

I have never flown with it. IMO it flies better without it, as I have found it disturbs the down thrust of the main blades.

As far as they know, I already had it!

The skeleton design is designed to minimize weight and aerodynamic impact. Just for vis.
