Frischi, no need to wade through the thousands of posts on the RC Groups thread. The following is a setup guide I use for every helicopter that passes through my hands. If done according to this, you will have a helicopter that will lift off nice and gently.

1) First, you will want to make sure the knobs on the front of the transmitter are turned on. To get the knobs to operate, flip the #8 dip switch on the back to the unlocked (left) position. Set both knobs to 12 o’clock.

2)Center all the trims

3) With the helicopter turned on, both motors unplugged, mechanically level the swashplate by adjusting the three links that go from the servos to the swashplate. Actually, adjust the swashplate so it is tilted slightly to the right (when viewed from behind) as this helicopter has a tendency to pull to the left.

4)Now, with the flybar level, sight down the length of each blade, noting how much pitch it has. Set both blade grips to 0 degrees pitch. You will do this by adjusting the long link that runs from the mixing arm to the swashplate. If need be you can adjust the whole head by loosening the setscrew on the aluminum head block and slide it up or down, keeping it engaged with the flat spot on the main shaft
5) Now that it is adjusted mechanically, turn the PIT (right knob) to the 10 o’clock position. You will see the blades will now have some positive pitch.

6)Go test fly it. You will note that the helicopter will lift off the ground nice and gently. If it does leap off the ground more, turn the same knob counter clockwise one click at a time. Do note that in order to have equal positive and negative pitch for doing aerobatics you will need to return that knob to the 12 o’clock position, but for hovering and basic forward flight the settings I’ve mentioned are perfect.

7) Once you have it flying like you want it, flip the #8 dip switch to the lock position so that if you bump the knobs, it does not mess up your settings.

8)If you find the helicopter is still to responsive to cyclic, you can move the servo pushrods to the innermost hole on the servo arms.

If you have any other questions, call me at 1-800-705-0620 ext 204 (I'm here Monday through Friday 8-3pm)

Paul,

Are you referring to the PLT (top LEFT) or PZT (top RIGHT)..?

I have a VNR3D as well and it's been a bugger getting it to hover stable.

I've followed your suggestions and get approx 1-2 deg in positive pitch (i.e. it's 'just' noticeable) - based on adjusting the PZT (top right) to the 10 o-clock position.

All other settings are trimmed even across the board. Sound right?

I'm referring to the right knob. On some production runs it has been labeled PZT, others it has been labeled PIT. Typically I never touch the left knob.

As far as trims go, zero them out, but when mechanically setting up the helicopter, I usually have the swashplate kicked a little bit to the right (when viewed from behind)

Heh, cool, just checking.

I've pretty much got exactly what you recommend so will have to charge the battery pack and see how much damage I can do.

The setup Paul listed works great. I finally go the parts I needed to make repairs and it flys smooth. Still need to work it a bit once in the air, but not like before. Still need to tweak it a little here and there but for the most part it's right on.
Thanks Paul!!

It it really wat it says it is?

I saw the Viper 3D on

http://www.modelflight.com.au/rc_mo..._helicopter.htm

This was 4 $195.20

But on CML Distribution i saw it 4 £190

note the dollars and pound signs.

Is the cheaper one on Model Flight all that it says it is and is Ready 2 Fly out of the box?

IS there any difference i just wanna know before i waste my money and realise that it has no motors batties props etc. I'd be very happy if someone with a bit of experience would check it out 4 me.

The VNR3D was my first helicopter and that is what I learned to fly on. Everything you need to fly is in the box. There is some basic trimming you need to do first but you can fly it rather quickly and easily. Take your time. Dont rush wanting to fly fast. Earlier in this thread you will se some posts from Paul Susbauer. He is a guy from Venom and he goes through some trim setups for new flyers. IF you have any questions get in touch with him. Believe me, he will help you as much as you need it.
For the price it is a good heli. Whether you buy the VNR3D or another heli you will need to be patient and practice alot. Nothing is ready to fly out of the box for new flyers. I believe the phrase "Ready To Fly" is a bit deceiving. But, with practice and the right hep you will be flying in no time. If you really want something that will take off right away and be really easy to fly so you can get some experience then go for a coaxial heli. Then get a VNR3D.

VNR3D Wall Charger

Hello to everyone...I'm a beginner heli pilot and will need some help from you.

Had any of you problems with the wall charger of the VNR3D??? I have this heli since December 22 2007 and I get my second charger damaged. I only charge my batteries 2 or 3 times and the charger does not work any more. First times I used it, green and red light turn on and the red one turn off when connect the battery. Now the red stay off, the green turn on when connect the battery it never get charged!

Best regards...EZ

If you have any common sense, which most people don't imho. STAY AWAY FROM THE VNR3D. Its a total waste of money, and its a rebadged walkera 22E. Which is about half the price I may add. Repair bills will kill you. If the heli doesn't kill you first because of a glitch. All three of them gave me glitches resulting in major crashes, even with different freq. I've only owned 3 of them. So I know a little about what I'm talking about. Lets not mention the fact that you probably won't find any of these overpriced spare parts at your LHS. If you want a heli, get a trex or mx400. Anything bigger than that and you may want a gas powered one.

^^^and here we go again, thanks boing

EZ,
sorry, I don't have alot of info for the NiMH battery that comes with the NR3D. I tossed it early on and got some lipos. The only prob witht the lipos is it seems to burn tail motors faster.

Thanks, bluesjunky57
Thanks to you too boing69...I hope to have a better experience with my VNR3D...

I have another question for the rest of the members: Are any of you using peak charger for the NiMH 650mAh 10.8v 9 cells battery that come in the box? If so, can you give your comments and charger model?

On the other hand, did you find any battery that last longer than this one (lets say 1000 - 1200 mAh) and can be used with this heli?

Thanks...EZ

Got a Vnr3d for christmas and it flies very nice, lots of fun, Ive been expiramenting with diffrent batteries, as the stock Nimh batts seem to restain the heli due to weight, here are my obsevations

Stock Nimh 4.0 oz
5.5 min flight motor and battery around 150 degrees not much in the way of collective responce due to the weight probably, pretty good headspeed for first 2-3 mins, pretty good cyclic, very nice for some one learning to fly or just hovering in your livingroom, headspeed really goes downhill after the 4 mins but you can fly it till it will no longer fly

E-tec 700mah 11.1v lipo 2.0 oz
Im not sure what the discharge rate is on this old lipo Ive had for a while but flight performance is good headspeed, good collective and cyclc response, 5 min flight motor 150 batt 130 degrees heli now feels capable of some aerobatics

Electrifly 640 mah 20c cont 2.3 oz
Excellent head speed coll & cyclics lots of power heli now feels 3d able 5 min flight batt 115 degrees motor 155 degrees

Thunderpower 1320mah 11.1v 3.3 oz 13c cont 20c bursts
pretty much same as above but the motor reached 155 after only 3 mins of flight so I shut her down

these tests are all with the stock bruhsed motor as the heli is supposed to be lipo ready Brushed motor decided to quit last night after probably 15 to 20 flights, dont think it can handle the lipos.

I replaced the motor with the stock brushed motor that comes on the Ellectrifly flatouts, It is a direct replacement pinion and all just plug and play I have not yet tried the lipos on the ellectrifly motor but it does great on the nimh

Joey,
You should be able to get a lot more than 5 minutes on the helicopter with the stock nimh pack. You might double check your setup, referring to the one I posted at the top of this page, as your motor should not have been getting that hot, whether it is on nimh or lipo. Check your gearmesh for a slight amount of backlash.

Also, very well documented on the different batteries.

thanks again to Paul as I doublechecked the heli i found that I was one turn to far out on the linkage cousing too much pitch thus motor working too hard, it is running cooler now and has good headspeed and collective power on the nimh batteries

First time flyer

I am a first time flyer of any rc heli's or planes. And have had a blast learning the sophiticated radio. Now take for granted i have crashed more times than i have gotting it off the ground BuT. I love it. The first time I flew it I was like a little boy again with a grin from ear to ear. I don't mind spending the money on parts that is if i could find the parts. That would be my only complaint. Does any one know a place that has blades and othe parts readly avalible?
