Just curious how many people have bought any of the Walkera helis off eBay and found that they are pure JUNK. I'll start by saying I have. I bought the Dragonfly 36. Just hovering I can only get 5 minutes out of the battery. I think it would be easier to fly without a gyro than deal with the Walkera gyro. And forget about inverted flight because the cyclic response is just too slow. One of the servos won't center and I crashed because the receiver just decided it would take a break.

I got one for free, and I regret taking it

JUNK. It might fly better if I just kick it out of the window.

Are all mini's this big a pain? Is the T-Rex really that much better? What about the Shogun, because I believe the Dragonfly is a direct copy of one. Of course the biggest problem with Walkera is the electronics.

I had the Walkera #35 heli. I could not tell the difference between it and my Shogun V1. I do have to say though, the electronics on the Walkera are crap! The esc/reciever caught on fire. The instructions that came with it were useless. If I were to do it all over again, I would buy the Walkera, ditch the electronis, and replace with quality ones.

Enrolled full time A&P school... No time for flying :-(

I learned to fly helis on a Walkera #4.

I tought myself how to hover and then went on to side-in, nose-in and circuits. This indestructable heli took its share of beating (flew into walls and furniture countless times) while I was learning and I never had to order any parts. I did have a cracked tailboom (glued many times over!) which was eventually replaced with 5mm CF tube stock, cut to length.

When I thought I was ready, I bought a Raptor 50V2 and took lessons. Two of them, after which the insctructor soloed me (in his own Raptor, which had to mean something).

YMMV, but I get full 20min of hover time in the Walkera (more than on the Raptor actually) and, considering that its price includes transmitter, PC connection for the simulator, Rx, servos and gyro, I am actually quite happy with it.

Even after flying solo with my Raptor, I still enjoy flying the #4 at home. Can't handle much of a wind though, but I can live with that.

Best regards,
Bruno.

Walkara products!

I implore all to please take this advice and spread it like the word of God. If You should ever hear of any lost soul attempting to get into the wonderful and satisfying world of helicopters via any Walkara product.
Please do the only civilized thing and save You're fellow man. It would be forgiven in heaven to put a 44 Mag. right between they're eyes and explain later to peter at the gate what happened and You will be forgiven. Walkara products such as the #35 and #36 with belt drive tail are junk from the word go. In the #35 You will not be able to keep a tail rotor drive shaft to last for more than half a flight before it strips at either end. it does not care. it switches from one end to the other stripping when You look at crosseyed. The main gears and counter will strip on the #36. And Walkara uses they're own shafts wich are differant than ALL other manufacturers and good luck finding them in town. and if You do. I would not revisit that hobby store because all they are doing is to help a very bad helicopter rip as many poor people off as possible.
Fischer Price built the electronics for all Walkara product's and it shows.
Do NOT buy these and save face claiming - Oh I'll pull out the junk electronics and install good electronics. ARE YOU STONED!!!!!!!
The platform is junk. For God's sake just spend a little money and get something of high quality. T-REX comes to mind instantly. AND that is just My humble opinion as I have set up and flown both. JUNK.
BLAHKARA. Dieselrotor.

I have a # 35 and find it to fly good o what it is.i think the main problem is people just getting into this hobby go out and buy one of these rtf micros and find you just can not take it out of the box and be flying figure 8's in the front room...I have owned several of the cheap knock offs from hobbyjapan2000.com and even bough my soon the 4 channel dragonfly for Christmas and we had alot of fun Christmas morning..

the walkera 35 will fly in a fashion, but will strip gears as mentioned, the walker 36 will not get off the ground,it was a hasty modification to the 35,and was ill thought out.

walkera 35

Well, I've had mine a week now and still do not have it configured/fixed to the point that it will leave the ground.

Now, it seems like the ESC/RX is not sending enough power to the motor. I am going to see if I can borrow a brush ESC and bypass the integral one.

If god had wanted man to fly, he would have given him more money!

addendum

But, I will have to say that I had read the posts ahead of time and was expecting to have issues.

And what I had heard is pretty much the case: the chassis is sturdy, the electronics are pathetic, the manual is a joke, the support is nonexistent and the price is low.

Why esc/rx?

Just curious but why were you gonna bypass the esc? What motor are You running? The stock electronics that come with the #35 are junk but if they start the motor it is pretty gaurenteed that the motor is getting what the batt- has to offer! so You may wanna check bat.voltage too. The Rx/ESC combo is pretty twitchy. What I mean is ' is that "yes" they will decide to burn the ESC control side of the set and WILL " if that is the pathway of the ESC board that burns on either the slow OR the full open side. Of wich I had happen with a little SABRE E/P heli. And the ESC on My #35 pulsed the whole board and fried it completely. And I guess all I am saying is . If it is the Rx/ESC ! I would just buy the stock replace esc/rx and if' or since You are gonna buy a spendy little esc and then a reciever! "remember You can not use You're old reciever because the feed is wrong for the controler. You can not PUT high voltage INTO the esc controler side. So then the new reciever! and You cant run a two wire motor on a pulsed board so then there is the new motor. And now the battery to run it all is a LIPO. so now You wanna put all that pretty power in a platform that still uses z-bend linkage! With linkages like that You could'nt Put enough whieght on the flybar paddle shaft to calm it down with that much power. Oh yea! and loose the labled "DRGONFLY" servo's ! So let's see? about $89.00 for a decsent motor. $130.00 or so for an ESC. $40-60 bucks in reciever. $20.00 a servo x 4. w/ccpm .x5 w/cp. About $80-90 for a lipo. $45 for the charger. You can use the Walkara gyro. It's all J.R if You wanna match that radio that came with. Oh and even though there is a dip switch on the back that say's ccpm/norm. It does not work. the radio only works in normal!! And unlock that damb thing by switching the dip(cpm/nml). IGNORE the caution not to switch unless advanced pilot. Without it You can't set hover pitch!!! I guess in My opinion is I would keep the Walkara stock and keep it around for sentimental reasons when You are flying You're hopped up ? "for one example-TREX -$199.99or ECO-? and You look back at You're (all of our) nievity. Yes You can fly a descent helicopter with that radio use'ing J.R equipt for now so You can get the sweet EP under construction and have two heli's You can fly with the same radio until You can spring for real power to program and have a great time doing it. And anything You buy to fly on that radio has to have collective pitch. Not ccpm remember. MY OPINION ONLY. Diesel rotor

I have the stock SD400 brush motor. I was going to connect the INPUT of the ESC to the #3 output of the RX (it has 6 channel output: 1,2,4 and 6 are connected to servos; #3 is there, but comes out as motor power on the other connector. I should be able to hook an ESC to it and then connect THAT output to the motor and ignore the output of the integral ESC. I figure that would be the cheapest way to get this thing to fly. I dont expect this to last forever, I just wanted a cheap heli because I figure I will destroy it in the learning process. Then once I have some experience, I will get a real one.

I checked Volts, the battery (1200mA LiPo) puts out ~11V under full load. The motor output of the integrated ESC puts out ~10V at full throttle under load. If I directly connect the battery to the motor I get a SUBSTANTIAL increase in Rotor RPM (like 33% or so - just guessing, dont have a tach at this time).

Right now I can NOT get off the ground, just slow jitter across tile floors. (which actually is a good training environment to get the hang of controlling tailrotor). I have checked the blade pitch and it seems to me that the max the servos can accomplish (regardless of what TX settings it takes to get it ) is about +/- 10 degrees. So to get more lift, I cant expect more pitch, the only other choice is more RPM or longer blades.

If god had wanted man to fly, he would have given him more money!

Walk-era products!

Got my Walkera#22e for more than a week now. Plastic part are damned brittle, while trimming/tracking the heli, broke the ball connector... after fixing it tried to hover, the bird slammed down to the left, blade hit the ground and broke the connector on the main blade holder... fixed it again and tried another attemp to fly, but in about 1 foot off the ground, the bird didnt respond to the "left/right,forward/backward" slammed to the ground and broke one arm of the swashplate. Never been hover successfully.... In almost two weeks, I became an expert, not in flying a helicopter BUT in repairing parts of this helicopter..lol....at least.....

Great comment I heard today - 'A Walkera is like a Trabant, actually a poor rip off of a Trabant'

For those not acquainted with the Trabant, do a google search to learn more

They should have called them the Walkaway.

low RPM

OK, I inadvertently fixed my low rotor RPM problem. The main motor and the main gear were too tighly joined. I loosened the motor and the tail boom and reinstalled more loosely. Moved it up to mid-throttle to see if it would turn any faster. HOLY CRAP! That sucker took off - leaped into the air and before I could get my hand back to the remote crashed into a door and spent some money; or at least epoxy and tape.

If god had wanted man to fly, he would have given him more money!
