Yup, Shesha, that's the right link. There are a bunch of FAI videos. It looks easy compared to the stuff you see Jason Krause, the Szabos, Curtis Youngblood and others fly, but those maneuvers are tough to do right.

Good News Guys,

Caliber 400XP will come out End of Aug. and this is what Kyosho America told me..

the XP will be very much modified. The battery is relocated to sit above the motor for perfect CG balance. All linkages in the head are now ball links no Z bends. The tail rotor assembly has been changed with a very responsive design. The pitch slide ring is now aluminum also so there is no play. The XP will feel much more responsive to input and be able to do much harder aerobatics. I believe the XP will be the one the best 400 size electrics so far. It does not come with a motor as it will be user choice such as AON.

Cool, after all the work I did in this thread over the past year coming up with the battery mod and making the suggestions that finally found their way into the kit...all Kyosho has to do is send me an XP kit to cover the cost of my R & D.

I'd like very much to see and fly the new XP. All it takes is time and a bunch of $$$.

Hello Dave and the rest of the heli pilots here.

I have been reading a lot, but I had to register and post my THANKS to you for this thread of extremely useful information.

My new EP400 is ready, I set it up using your info and I have already hovered it inside my living room!
I am learning, and I learned a lot from this forum.
I hope that, as my experience builds, I will have something useful to post in return sometime.

Thanks again
Costas

Do what Vinnie at Just Go Fly recommends. I tried it, and it works fine. Go to your local hobby shop and buy a length of 1/8th inch outside diameter brass tubing.

This stuff:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXR823&P=0

The 1/8th inch OD fits the bore of the Robinson Racing pinions, the ID of the tubing fits the shaft of the 400DH. Tighten the set screw down, you're done.

Worked on my 400DH with no problems, and lets you try out all the pinions available from Robinson Racing.

I am fixing my EP400 now (there was a screw came out from T-Rex swashplate.)and waiting for the new EP400 XP available in HK. It should be a very exciting 400 size heli.

Dave, once you have the new EP400 XP on hand, please kindly post more information here again. I love to read your posts.

Many thanks.

It will be awhile before I end up with an XP. Could be a long while, my heli budget for the current year went into a new Caliber 5. I'd love to have one, I need to scrape together the $$$ to buy and outfit one, and I don't know when they will be available in the states.

I actually stuffed my EP400 into the turf tonight. Did something really stupid. Last time I flew it, I only flew for about 5 minutes. I came home, put it on the shelf, got busy, and didn't charge the LiPo. I took it out to fly this evening, dead calm, and beautiful weather. I had my timer set to go off at five minutes and 30 seconds, which usually leaves me with another three-and-a-half minutes of hovering before the batteries poop out.

Tonight, the motor suddenly acts as if the ESC had gone into Low Voltage cut off. I was pretty high, started to bring the heli in, and the motor just spun down to nothing before I got to the ground. I hadn't attempted an auto with the EP, but did manage to get down somewhat gently. I broke the skids, and may have a slight bend in the main shaft.

Turns out I didn't recharge the Lipo after the last flight. My battery pack died at about 4 minutes into the flight. The charger just got finished with the pack, and put back 2087 mah into a 2100 mah pack. Ouch. Man, do I feel stupid!

I'll keep you posted should I pick up an XP.

Many large photos of EP400 XP here.
http://www.kyosho.de/?page=shop/fly..._title=product#
I went to check the shops today and I saw the box of Kyosho Caliber EP400 XP which was selling for HK$15xx(USD200 only). I couldn't see/touch the real one. I really wanna buy it but I was afraid that XP will have the same pitch problem on just EP400. It has too much play...

The shop keeper shows me the XP menu which shows the new designs of pitch(looks like the tail pitch design of Freya/Sceadu) and there are just too many things improved. I looked at the menu and found it had everything we complaint but now is improved.

I need to touch the pitch to confirm if it has no problem of play(s) ...

What I wanna do is to buy this new EP400 XP and then just put the metal swashplate, slide pitch and the tail slide pitch to my old EP400 and then leave the new box as a spare parts.

By the way, my wife complains I buy too many helicopters ...

I already got a Trex and couldnt wait anymore for the XP version..
Just looking at the pics you can really see the quality on that kit unlike the Trex you need to buy all the blings to look that good but then again the design of the Trex is well proven, so lets see how that XP do against the Trex

Dwight,

I saw you had already got your EP400 XP built.

What do you comment the pitch system of it now? I saw it available in Hong Kong now but don't wanna take the risk again. I had a very hard time to do a precise pitch measurement with EP400. T-Rex and all my helis are easy to do. They all can fly what you do pitch on it, except EP400. Its pitch quality is very bad to me.

Wish to hear from you soon.

Many thanks!!

Qooo,

The pitch mechanism is much better now with the new scissor design. All the mixing arms were also redesigned so the whole system is much more precise now. The mixing ratios are different also. I do not know exactly what they are but there are multiple holes on the mixing arms that allow cyclic tuning now. All the mixing arms and pitch levers will accomodate bearings whereas before this was not possible. Overall the new kit is a very nice upgrade from the original.

Thanks, Dwight.

Yesterday, I could not stop myself to buy the last box of EP400 XP.

I love all the improvements in XP version. Kyosho is putting their heart. The whole heli is made in Japan. All the metal parts are high quality. No more play now.

What I did was putting all the metal parts to my old EP400. One thing I found that was I had a very hard time to insert the plastic ball end to the linkage balls.

The tail is so good and no more play now. It has the same design as Raptor50's tail. I will some some pics tonight for that.

Should I trim it with a special tools for the ball ends?

I need to buy a new set of 401 gyro and receiver for my new 400 XP ... cost$$$ ...

Anyway, thanks Kyosho finally has this upgraded version.

Dave,

I am checking your old posts now because I am thinking what servos should I buy for my EP400 XP. I want to buy all 4 Hitec 56 but I know Hitec56 is too long for EP's aileron, isn't it?

You really had a very long experiments...it is very informative for everyone interested in EP400 series.

By the way, Dragonus 2 Pro is selling so cheap in Hong Kong. It is only USD186.00 which is cheaper than my EP400 XP. Crazy!!! Just don't know how the shop can make profit for selling it with this prices.

The only real problem I encountered with the HS56 servos was the fact that they are set up for four mounting screws -- two holes in each mounting ear. The bracket designed to hold the servo for the aileron function is set up for a servo having only one hole per ear ala the HS55. I ended up having to drill a third hole in each servo ear to match the hole in the mounting bracket. Other than that, the HS 56 fit with no additional issues.

I have a JR Sport equivalent of the HS50 on the tail, I think it's a JR Sport SM-8 servo.

I just bought 4 Hitec 56HB servos. When I tried to install it to elevator, I found that we cannot use 56 because it blocks the pitch lever ... what the! ... Therefore I need to use JR382 again which is very small but damn expensive servo.

I have already installed servos to my EP400 XP.
i found that 1st we cannot use 56 for the elevator because the upper part of 56 servo is too big so it blocks the new pitch lever. 2nd thing is if we use 56 for the aileron, again because the upper part of 56 is too long, you cannot put the ball inside the servo plate in order to make the rod level to each other. You need to install the ball outside and the slope is a way too much for me.
Therefore I think I will only use 56 for pitch and rudder and JR371/382 for aileron and elevator because they are just perfect fitted. The bad thing is the performance is very slow.

Today I had a test flight with my new EP400 and just felt as stable as before. I just did a 8mins hovering and see everything was going fine.

I will install the new system of mixing levers, slide block now because I found that there are still many play with the main blade grips. That is all from the old mixing levers and slide block.

HaHa...it feels so great that to see how every parts to improve from EP400 to EP400 XP now. I love doing it.
