HIROBO Turbulence - SDX - Freya - Sceadu > Freya flywheel speed tools?

I have created a couple of tools that may speed up the installation and alignment of the flywheel (starter pulley). I haven't actually put them to use yet as I was bored and trying to find a way that will speed up the alignment process. I hate installing the fan/hub on the engine because I like it to be aligned properly. I really like it to indicate less than two thousandths but it's a long tedious process.

I typically use the crank lock and flywheel wrench but after tightening the nut on the crank and then needing to remove the fan it's on too tight to just pull off by hand so I would sometimes use a gear puller and sometimes a rig that involves my flywheel wrench. Either way takes more effort and time than I think it should. In search of a better way I have come up with the following tools. These are just trial and error and I'm looking for thoughts and methods that may make it easier. I'm just wondering if anyone has any other methods that work well.

A simple flywheel wrench with enlarged area to allow removal without removing screws.

Place on and turn.

Can be used to tighten nut on crank.

Flip it over and it can be used to loosen nut.

A simple way to remove the flywheel without removing the screws.

Slide it in place and turn.

I haven't tried it yet to see if the plastic T will hold up but if not it's just a hex head that a wrench could take care of.

i dont get how the the first tool works but the fly whel puller hirobo has on and it is about 9 dollars and who cares about the bolts you have to remove them any way to remove the clutch off the fly wheel

but i do admire your craftyness

what we need is a tool that fits in blade grip that holds a laser pointer so we can set the phase right ie look at ron lunds set up on his evo

that would be cool

thanks jeff

Jeff,
Thanks for the input. I have the real fan/hub wrench but what I'm trying to make is a little different. My contraption is for speeding up the process of fan/hub alignment, not just removal. It only took 15 minutes to create.

When I fit the fan/hub on the engine I dial indicate the fan/hub. It's typically out quite a bit and requires one to remove it, rotate it a bit and reinstall. Sometimes it goes on after a few tries and reads very close to or less than two thousandths out. Many times it has taken me an hour or more (even several hours) of turning and removing and turning. All this is done without the clutch installed and using the fan/hub wrench you have to install the screws everytime then remove them before dial indicating. Some times I just use the crank lock and don't use the fan/hub wrench but I was hoping to create something that would allow me to keep the engine fastened to the bench to speed along the indicating process. Once it's in tolerence I shim the clutch if it's out of alignment.

The fan/hub puller I made is so that after loosening the crank nut I can just slip the fan/hub wrench off and slip the puller in and remove the hub without taking the engine off the bench where I have it mounted for dial indicating.

This may not apply much to the new Freya EVO as I understand the tolerance of the clutch parts is supposed to be improved.

I realize some people do not dial indicate any parts of the clutch assembly and just fly it as is. That's fine but a dialed in clutch and fan/hub make for a sweet running engine and heli.

Where's the link to Rick's information? I looked but didn't see it. Also I didn't know Hirobo made a flywheel puller. Where can I see this?

Thanks,
JK
