Maybe you want to try auto-throttle ??

With auto-throttle you tell him each time your throttle range...

Abysmal_Torment, if you are using stock TX, you should be able to do "stick-programming" to program your BL ESC. Check out the website or your instructions manual of your BL ESC(if any) on how to enter programming mode via stick movements on your stock Tx.

I'm using Castle Creations Phoenix 10 and Auto Throttle mode allows full "stick travel" for throttle range. You don't need the USB link for programming your ESC to Auto Throttle mode since you don't have have to specify the fixed points. After you enter programming mode, you have have to answer each question (indicated by beeping sound pattern). You just gotta be patient and you have to listen carefully to the beeping pattern.

When you reach the question "Auto-throttle mode?", just move the throttle stick accordingly (full throttle = YES ; zero throttle = NO and middle throttle = next question).
Hope Auto-throttle mode will solve your problem!

It is tedious. You gotta follow the instructions very carefully just to be able to enter programming mode. I guess the manufacturer made it this difficult so that we won't enter programming mode by accident when we fiddle around with the throttle stick.

But, it will save you the cost of buying a USB programming link. You can try my approach.
1) print out the instructions and table of questions.
2) after you perform each action, strike it off the printoff with a pencil.

It's easier that way, and you won't mix up the sequence.
Just give it a try. A lot of people still use stick programming because you just gotta do it once only so there's no point in spending more than 20bucks for a piece of cable.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I picked up some Kokam 740HD 20C 3s packs on sale at www.allerc.com.

WOW !!!! These packs rock the house!!! The Kokam HD pack can really hold the voltage up for the whole flight - and now the 7T pinion is perfect!!!

I am going to get a few more of these packs for sure - these are excellent for small BL helis, EDF jets, and smaller 3D foamies like the GWS 3D Tiger Moth.

I will post an inflight discharge graph of this battery on the BL Esky to compare to the chart of my tired TP730 3s pack posted above.

I have a Himax 4100 and Phoenix 10 ESC that I want to try on my HB CP2. I would appreciate if anyone would share the Phoenix 10 setup with the new firmware.
Also, the pinion that comes with my brushed motor is a 9t. Where can I get an 8t and is their a 7t supplier in the US?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Here is the in flight recording for my new Kokam 740HD. Below that is the chart for a somewhat used (I'd say middle of it's life) and well cared for Thunder Power G2 730mah.

The used TP730 is near soft cutoff voltage after giving up only ~300mah.

The new 20C Kokam pack, with it's lower internal cell resistance, is able to hold the voltage up much better. The voltage plot is much flatter in the chart.

This higher voltage results in a lower average amp draw (consumption rate) which means a longer flight time per mah, and cooler temperatures all around. The data shows a lower Delta Temp over Ambient for the main motor & battery after the flight.

The Kokam will also probably give up ~80% of capacity before soft cutoff - or almost 600mah - twice as much as the TP730 and at ~400mah lower consumption rate.

Interestingly, the Kokam 740HD is slightly larger and ~10 grams heavier than the TP730 even though the pack construction is the same (ie: very basic). I'd say this is a good thing in this case.

This is only the 2nd flight on the Kokam so I did not try and stretch the flight time anywhere near the soft cutoff voltage. We'll see how the Kokam is doing after 50 flights in the 3D bipe & the heli.

Most important - where the rubber meets the road, or the blades beat the air - this battery makes for a whole different heli



Ambient Temp - 33C; Battery Temp - 37C; Main Motor - 48C
MinVoltage - 10.9 AvgVoltage - 11.3 AvgAmp - 2.9





Ambient Temp - 27C; Battery Temp - 50C; Main Motor - 43C

Hi tjrtmaster,

I assume you are still using the 4 in 1 Controller. You can tap Channel 3 directly from the Receiver portion of your 4 In 1 by soldering the ground and signal wires to the Channel 3 leads on the Receiver's PCB. We omit the middle(power) wire as your Phoenix 10 ESC works best with direct power supply from the Lipo.

As for the configuration of PHX-10 ESC, the settings that are of concern are the cutoff voltage, current limit, the throttle mode, the brakes option and Startup mode. I had mine as follows:

Cutoff voltage - Auto-Lipo (it works effectively with my 3 cell Lipo)

Current limit - Off (I don't rely on this, I fused the BL motor with a 10amp MiniBlade Fuse from Automotive store)

Throttle Mode - Auto (you can try governor mode for CP but it seems to have some issues that will cause tail wagging, Auto works fine as it automatically works out the full travel of the throttle stick)

Brakes - Off (we don't need this as heli doesn't need the prop brake)

Startup - Softest Start for your CP heli.


I hope this helps. I have been using the above setup with Phoenix 10 and Himax HA 2015 3600kv on the 4 In 1's "hacked" Channel 3. It flies beautifully on a 12T pinion (for the heavier Like 90 wooden blades)

Well, I finially put the Himax 2015-4100 on my HB CP2 and what a difference! I don't have an 8t pinion yet so I went with the 9t from the stock 370 motor. The head speed is much faster than the stock motor. With zero pitch the head speed is 2400 at full throttle which I know is too fast. I am going to order an 8t and I am still looking for a supplier for a 7t in the US. Any help with a 7t supplier would be appriciated.
The heli seemed much more stable. I have 0-10 degrees of pitch in normal mode and it boggs at full pitch. I am hoping that the correct pinion will help that. The other problem is I got 3 glitches in 3 flights. I am using the CC Phoenix 10 with the 1.51b firmware. Anyone having similar issues?
I was hoping for increased power over the stock motor and not having to keep replacing burnt up motors.......the Himax 4100/phoenix 10 combo make it a new helicopter. Once I get the glitch problem solved it will be really good.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		GWS F50H and a GWS 4530 prop cut down to 3.75" inches - direct drive. The motor gets pretty warm after a full 1320mah battery, but so far they're lasting about 30-35 flights. If I didn't cut down the prop, I'd burn 'em up in about 5 flights of 10 mins each. No way I could fly a full 20-22 mins like I do with the cut down props.

I'm considering going brushless on the TR motor, but not sure if I want to drop more $$ on this helo.

A helicopter is 10,000 parts spinning rapidly around an oil leak.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I use the GWS CN12-R-XC motor with the 3030 prop. I have 70+ flights on the current tail motor. Once I started running a higher headspeed the tail motors started to last far longer - in fact the one I have on now only gets slightly warm after an 8-10 min. flight.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Try out the 4025 prop. It is a .25" bigger than 3.75". It worked well on my gws dd motor. Found it better than the 4530, which kept burning out motors.

Dont spend money on brushless tail motor. A Feigao with cc10 would cost you about $70-80. If you really wanna upgrade then wait for the belt drive upgrade from helidirect. Its suppose to be $70.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I use the 4530 props 'cuz the local shop has 'em by the dozen. Easier for me to cut 'em down than to wait for a few to come in via special order.

Not sure if I wanna do the belt drive frame either. Hell, I might just sell the Blade since I tend to fly the 'rex more often than it.

So reading the thread, it seems that the following setup is the best for the blade with stock tx:

1.Himax 2015-3600 (same/better as E-Flite Park 370/3600kV??) + heatsink + 8teeth or 9teeth.

CC10 connected to CH3 (not the red wire!).

CC10 programmed to auto-throttle (start procedure: mid stick, batterie on, full stick for a few seconds, stick down to arm 4in1).

DD-Tail + GWS CN12-R-XC + 4530(cut down to 3,75)or 3030.


Is that right or did i forgett something??

The new CastleCreations software offers "Helicopter Fixed Endpoint" >>is for fixed pitch helicopters and collective pitch helicopters when a manually set throttle and pitch curve is used on the transmitter.
Why not use this one??

Does anybody use this setup on a Blade CP with "Super Skids" and 1320mAh batterie (weight together about 400g)? How is your runtime?
