Hmmm,I just setup my new Trex, and have only hovered it thru two packs. As i set it up I read this thread, so I thought. I thought the issue was the screw that hold the blades to the blade holder, and changed those. Nicely shouldered they are! Guess I should check and change the screw that holds teh holder to the hub. Sometimes idle time pays off. Glad I reread the thread.

SE Tail hub (bolt) failed

My newer HS-1147 tail hub sheared a bolt in flight. I'm fairly sure it was the newer type (heavier than aluminium ridged hub)with black hex bolts. When it came off it gave me a bloody good whack on my arm and certainly could have caused some damage if it hit me anywhere else.

Not sure where I go from here? Any advice on alternatives to the Align hub is appreciated.

New HS1127 with SS hubs

Saw these at the LHS with stainless hubs. Are these good? Or should I stay away from it.

I think the new hubs with 2 ridges are stainless steel. Thet are not magnetis to heavy and tough to be stainless.

I think it was a design defect.Not the material defect.the old version is no problem.why? just compare the configuration then you will find the point.

I also think the design of the SE hub is crap. As others have said, it puts the load onto a small screw. It's just wrong. The XL has a much better design as the grip bearings slide over part of the hub. All the screw does is keep the grip from flying off rather than also taking the rotational and blade load.

I've just pulled apart the tail of my new SE to try and get some of the slop out of it (there is more slop in it than my banged-up XL). While doing that, I discovered that both the new bolts, the black ones with the sholder, were slighly bent. Either that or the thread in the hub is missaligned. I've never crashed it, and I'm only running 2200-2400rpm, not something insane like 3200.

Where can I get hardened bolts

I have an SE V2. I'm going to switch to the white gears to speed the tail up because the blue ones don't allow the tail to hold well enough during agressive backwards flying. Seems like the new black bolts are still shearing off for people, correct?
So, where can we get some good quality hardened bolts? Are they 2mm or 2.5mm?

The problem I see with the new hub and tail blade holder design, is that the bolt is exposed to too much shear. The end of the hub is flat. The bearing sits on it, and the bolt is the only thing crossing the two! The older design, from what I've seen in pictures, is better because the hub appears to go into the blade holder.

finless: Looks like a good setup, but what pitch slider do you use? The slider I got with my SE was even crappier than the one that came with my XL. Where did you get those CNC XL grips?

They look like the old style blade grips that are not available any more as far as I know. Only 1 bearing and a bush for the hub to sit in I beleive. They need to make the blade holder body fatter and use a bigger bearing to accomadate the hub. IMHO and may be a bigger bolt.

Yeah, I'm ditching the SE tail hub and blade holders. It is just a matter of time before the black bolt fails since it is the only thing supporting the bearings. I ordered the micro heli hub and tail blade holders since there the hub goes into the blade holder and takes the shear stress instead of the bolt. The bolt only resists tensile force in that model. I'll post my results.
