Hello guys,

been a while since ive read here on the Hornet forum. las i knew, the MS twister is the best motor for the Hornet 2, did anyone find something better for 3D ?

im getting great performance with about 10 mins for a 3D flight with my Twister, but if there was an even stronger motor.. why not ?

Why not get a 450th, extend the tail boom a la Jiri's Hornet ORRR convert to belt drive with a longer tail boom, then run Trex-sized blades?

That would be ballistic, if you could get it to work.

The 400dh motor should make this bird scream. Im not sure if it will fit the h2 frame though.

Don't forget that for these motors you will also need a larger (heavier)
battery pack ... I would start worring about the weight, unless the
rotor diameter is enlarged ...

I just tested out my new 730 prolites and i love it. These packs are so light it make the h2 a rocket ship. I used to fly the tp 900 and I thought the climbout was fast enought but man was I wrong. The 730 prolites will make a difference. You should try it I3DM before you get another motor.

I3DM.

I juz remembered. Our local hornet rep has tried out a mini B/L momtor from cyclon. I can't remember which one, but it's the weight of the twister, but can power up to Zoom sized helis and could fly an ARK400!. Workmanship was better, I was told. The problem is getting the right sized pinion. as the shafts come in non-standard sizes and the kV is not common Size wise, It's also smaller. Price range is about only$10-20 more than the AXI!

mini cyclon heli...50gramshttp://www.cyclonbrushless.com/cyclon-intro.html

150W continuous, 200W peak.. sorry got the weight wrong... but this thing is so badass it stripped the stock plastic pinions from MS.... and left the main gear intact.

I calculated.... you'll need a 13t or a 14t. I think he was using the biggest pinion from the kit which is a 12?

Hi

I just treid out one of the Prolite 730 3 cell packs and although it was certainly ok it will not give the same punch as a 1320 ProLite, when doing rainbows etc the tail will blow out showing that the motor can not keep the head speed up.
The packs do get better with a couple of cycles so it may well improve but on the face of it I will be sticking with the big bad 1320 packs.

Recently I have been flying my X3D's first thing in the morning before I go to work on the subzero but calm and sunny mornings, certainly forces me to wake up:-)

BTW I use the MS twister motor and although I have honestly not tried a great range of motors in the Hornet I have been impressed with the motor.

Cheers

Bob, this is bad bad bad news..... I remember I was deciding between getting the 1320s or the 730s... went 730s to be cheapskate and weight-saving.... ARrggghhh..... Please update us if the "broken in" performance is any difference....

You fly in a narrow pitch window right/?

I don't think it is that bad a news as the model is still very 3D capable just that the 1320 is so far even better.
Performance of the 730 is probably about the same as the older 1320 packs at the moment.

Not sure what you mean, I fly the Hornet and all my models with loads of pitch (over pitched) to get good stops and just fly the pitch at all times so as not to overload the motor.

Hi All

I have been using the 1320 for some time and getting 15 min fff out of them i have just recently changed over to 730 prolights and what a difference they make i am surprised that such a small pack can give so much performance and a weight saving of 40 grams on the twister motor this bird realy flys and my bird is only using 85 ma a min so i am getting 8 min flight times awesome

The world is round you can run but you will always end up where you started from

On the first chance i get, im trying 3D with the 480Mah Prolite (35g!) - on the test flight (just hovering in idle up and punching the collective some, it got slightly warm, not hot al all.

could be interesting with the light weight and all.
