Hey guys,

THought some of you might like to see this:

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t214940p1/

I know some of you mentioned interest in the Viper / Stinger helis. I would say dont bother. This machine blows the Viper out of the water. I love it!

What you guys think?

AnnihilaT,

Looks good, so Rex SE or EP 8. I realize the EP 8 is bigger, but which one would you sink your money in?

Well since i have 3 fully upgraded Rex's already i wont be getting an SE so obviously i choose this. Another thing.... this is a whole new class of machine. This thing looks and acts like a nitro machine in the air. There just isnt really any comparison. Blades tracked perfectly with no adjustment. Tail was rock solid and very smooth with no extra work (gain at 65% but i think i will dial that down - i think its just not needed to have that much). I dont know.... its just a whole new experience and a very pleasant one.

Lloyd,

Why did you give up on the Viper?

The EP8 looks really nice. A larger electric will be more enjoyable and will fit in better at the field next spring. I like the fact that doubled up 2100 3S packs will fly it - very compatible with the Trex for those of us with several of packs. The price is not prohibitive either. Parts availability for the Quick is an issue in my area and is a significant factor in operating costs.

I really want to see what Align and TT come up with in the larger electric category before I dive in. I really like Align's responsiveness to the market.

yep...

only thing holding me back right now is to see what Align can bring to the market.

especially like the battery options for this bird. not all half bad as what i expected.

align will have to seriously compete for the price the Quick full metal 'jacket' is being offered for.

i like how it looks, agressive styling...

vid on the EP-8 website looks quite convincing.

so weird that the same batteries flying a considerably smaller trex can fly a larger bird. anyone know their AUW on the 'QJ8' ?

Good Day: crashed thx to dumb thumbs. Bad Day: crashed mechanical malfunction. Every Day: CRASH :)

With the 2 2100's, What flight times do you get. I guess I am hung up on the 10 minute thing. Or, what battery would fly it for 10 minutes? I was also thinking of the SE, but, this Quick 8 looks really nice.

I fly it for 12 mins on 2 TP2100's. It will fly longer but i dont fly my batteries to the low voltage cutoff as this does damage to your batteries.

lowflyer,

did the 9650 fit in the side frame holes for the tail servo or did you have to enlarge it?

...

looked at a pricing list on parts last night........

stuff that looks like it might break in a crash is kinda pricey on the list. i realize this is a bigger bird with ALL CNC parts... but something like $30 for a single blade grip is kinda steep i think. its weird, some of the parts list looks very reasonable, and other parts look expensive... i kinda curious to see 'what gives' in a crash to get an idea of spent parts. got to imagine in a nasty crash that frame might bend (the alum doesn't flex at all, it just bends if forced enough).... that could be VERY costly.

sure its fine if you're a rare crasher... but for me it could be a bit much. since i "CRASH everyday".

guess i could keep the trexy for getting crazy and crashing... and then just try to make myself behave while flying the QJ

anyone know number of teeth in main gear? trying to do some numbers on headspeed for motor/pinion/cell count combos.....

pretty much looks like the MEGA 16/25/4 on HV has been the 'most liked' combo so far. anyone else using a different motor on HV yet? how'd it do?

Good Day: crashed thx to dumb thumbs. Bad Day: crashed mechanical malfunction. Every Day: CRASH :)

I think their isnt enough data out yet to know which motors are the best. The mega is the most commonly used at the moment thats true but i chose to go with a hacker A30-10L which should handle 3 cell and 6 cell pretty decent with the proper pinion sizes. I dont plan on flying this the same way i fly my trex's . I will try the crazy stuff on the Rex's and I will take it easy on this machine unless im confident i can pull of the maneuver. I agree its not a machine you want to practice on unless you practice several mistake high and are sure you can recover.

how'd you feel about the hacker on 3s?

do you feel it could have flipped/rolled confidently? or probably would want more power for that type of flying?
