I believe my original main gear on my Raptor 30 is 86 teeth. Is that correct for stock gear? I have a 10 tooth pinion gear but I think I read somewhere to go with an 85 tooth main gear along with the 10 tooth pinion. Is that correct or is the 86 original the way to go? Thanks for any help!

It should be 85 and 10. At least thats what I changed mine to.

gear ratios

You're correct, the stock gear is an 86 tooth. There are aftermarket 84 and 85 tooth gears available.

I upgraded my Raptor 30 to the 46 with the conversion kit and it came with a new 10 tooth pinion and an 85 tooth main.

I suppose you could run a 10 and an 86. You'd end up with an 8.6/1 ratio. I don't know how well they'd mesh, I can't imagine it would be a problem.

The stock Raptor has a ratio of 9.56/1. They recommend the 8.5/1 for the bigger motors going in the 46 and 50 class upgrades. The 85T main and 10T pinion is std. in the Raptor 50 and the 46/50 conversion kit.

Your headspeed would vary only 22 RPM at 16,000RPM (engine) between an 8.5/1 ratio and an 8.6/1 ratio.

If you're going to do the conversion you are OK at 8.6 instead of 8.5.

I just wouldn't run that ratio with a 30 size engine.

Thanks Guys! I will tell you how she runs after I get it broken in. It flew pretty good with the OS 46 and 9 tooth and I bet this OS 50 with the 10 tooth will be even better...thanks again....

The 10 tooth will work with the 86 gear. However the mesh is TIGHT. You need to run it to wear it in. On The other hand the 85 main gear the mesh is perfect. Get the 10 / 85 setup. I never cared for the wear in method of setup.

The 8.5:1 ratio is also a very good ratio for the Webra 35. It will swing 600mm blades with a long boom on that ratio on 15% nitro with ease.

Webra 35

Jeff,

I respect your knowledge about helis and engines. I knew the Webra 35's were pretty hot but didn't realize they were that strong.

I have a Webra 61P5 in my Raptor 60 using 15%CPH, it does have very good power now that it's starting to break in. I had problems with idle and my Weston pipe so I added the Belwood Dual Glow RedHead and it runs even better, alittle more power on top and a marked improvement at idle.

So, what do you think about the Webra 52 AAR? Would you get it over an OS-50SX-H or the TT50?

I didn't even know Webra had the new motor out!! I haven't had a chance to fly my TT50 yet as it's still on my workbench, maybe I'll get it in a heli tomorrow. I have flown a couple OS50's but never in Raptors, I can just imagine the performance in that light airframe.
I have several of the Webra 35's and absolutely love them. The performance was good with the stock gearing as long as you kept the headspeed down but I like to spin them 1900+. The 8.5:1 gears really help out there. The Webra 35 advertises 1.5 hp, I think the OS46fx is rated at 1.62hp. I can barely tell the difference in flight.
I have a P-5 61 that I ran in the R-60 on 10% and a Muscle pipe and it had about the same power as the 61sxWC on the pipe on CP30, just liked to run at a lower rpm.
