| Every body makes mistakes , but making a mistake shouldn't result in your model arriving over the pits . You should be flying far enough away from the pits so that it simply doesn't happen . As you have stated that you had been flying 3D and lots of inverted which leads me to beleive that you are a competent pilot , yet beleiving flying over the pits is OK if it's a mistake smacks of a completely maverick attitude . Safe flying is no accident .

The only thing I would disagree with that is when there is a problem with a heli, if for example the gyro throws a fit, or a servo starts to go bad in the air, the heli could turn towards the pits, and even if you started out "far enough away" (judgement call) they can move pretty quick and close that distance, and you may struggle with getting it back down safely.
I know this because this is exactly what happened to me, my tail servo kicked out while in the first 1/8th-1/4 of a roll, the heli changed course by about 45 degrees bringing it right at the pits, luckily I managed to avoid hitting anything and got it on the deck without further incident, after that the tail servo just wanted to go hard over to one side, this was unintentional, and wasnt a mistake, it was a failure.
Its good to have a safe attitude but that doesnt prevent mechanical or electronic failure which can just as easily cause the same thing as doing something dumb with a healthy heli. |
