Yeah, I never understood the sticker thing. A few buddies of mine just let their cars do the advertising for them.

These types of businesses are dependent upon recruiting in order to push yourself up the ladder. If you don't recruit you die. There is a high drop out rate.

I agree with this statement. In many businesses you have to recruite/hire in order to get to the point of creating a residual income. The main way business owners do this is to hire others to do the work for them. That way when they're not at the office, they still get paid.

There's a high drop out rate with any new business. A lot of people don't understand that at the beginning of most any business you work your butt off for next to nothing in hopes that it will pay off in the future. In my experience I've found that the vast majority of people don't have patience or the vision and quickly lose motivation.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth anyway...

None...fortunately. That way, we can buy the helis we want from whereever we want to without having to become a "business owner." Could you imagine how high the prices would be? Crazy.

This is another problem with some companies. Is how they elevate the costs in order to pay the bonuses to the reps. The company I'm involved with is partnered with Cingular, Dish Network, MCI and Powernet Global to name a few... For example, the same deals or phones you get in a Cingular store, you can get through our company as all the rates, plans and prices are the exact same... The same goes for our other vendors.

Jitsuguy - I have no problem with what you do for a living on the side. If it works for you the more power to you. Maybe your business is not as hyped up Amway used to be. I say "Hyped Up" because I went to one of those Hollywood Production recruiting meetings held by Amway at the Long Beach Convention Center. It was so phony and tansparent to me that I wanted to get outta there asap but I was still somewhat entranced by the girl who brought me. It was a learning experience and learned enough. Its just not for everybody.

BTW - My bother used to be a high level Finance guy for Shaklee - same type of business - but he never went in for the multi-level sales as he was in their home office here in SF.

No, JitsuGuy, I'm not an expert on anything. But I know high-pressure scams when I see them, and the woman who recruited my daughter kept on her big time to sell, sell, SELL!

I finally ran the bitch out of my house on her last visit to deliver product. I threw that stuff in her car, and told her we weren't paying for this, or any more; and don't come back. She started to make some noise about cops, etc.,; then shut her hole when I smiled and said, "Oh, yeah; let's play that game."

The whole idea behind the scheme is this person gets a cut and credits from all the girls "under" her who are in the trenches selling the crap. The more they sell, the more credits, etc., the "recruiter" gets. The brass ring for Mary Kay is apparently to be named a "director";
that's the impression I got from the discussions they had in my presence. After the first one, I told Ainsley I had put far better con artists in jail; but she was determined to give it a shot.

Some folks are suited to that high-pressure game; not my kid, apparently. But this woman would not accept that Ainsley was NOT enjoying herself and wanted out. She made the serious mistake of giving me a ration of sh!t in my own kitchen. Bad move...

JitsuGuy, I don't know what you do, and don't care. I was not commenting on whatever it is you DO do; I was responding to ShempHoward's comment regarding AmWay, because a pal had pretty much the same experience we did with the Mary kay gig when he tried selling AmWay.

The experience didn't make us experts; just a bit smarter.

Well, at the risk of offending JitsuGuy. Don't waste your time with it. I just got in from flying and am tired so I will let someone else explain it.

Listen, you won't offend me as long as you don't paint with a broad brush. Network Marketing works for those that understand it and put effort into it. But just like in any business, some are better than others. And also, just like in any business some folks are scum bags.

I'm no sales person, that's why I got invovled in a company where I don't have to get any customers. For me it was a smart business decision.

I remember on a cross-country flight, a Lear 25 parked next to me. I overheard the pilot saying "you know, this jet is the nicest thing Amway ever bought me". He was a bastard.

My problem with "Network Marketing" is that it's still a pyramid scheme. My best friend (best man in my wedding) got sucked into Quixtar. It got to the point that I had to show some interest in it if I ever wanted to spend time with him. I got him into Ham radio, and full-scale flying. We were the best of friends, but then, he only had time for Quixtar. He claims it's not a pyramid scheme but he gets paid when someone in the food chain under him sells stuff. Hmmm. OK, it's not a pyramid scheme. It's a SCAM! What's worse, they claim it helps them in their faith! God wants us to be rich and scam people out of their hard earned money. He wants us to cash in on other people's work too. He wants get paid for doing nothing. What a load of crap! Quixtar is Amway v2.0.

So ask me how I really feel!
-Neil

Yes Network Marketing works...

The hard part is if your serious about making it big you have to look at EVERYONE you meet as a potential recruit. I hated always feeling the pressure of missed oppurtunity when I failed to "prospect" everyone I met.

It bothers me when people call network marketing a scam even though I'm no longer involved in it (I've done a few different ones). EVERY BUSINESS is a "network marketing scam" or a "pyramid scheme"!

Think about it... who always gets paid the best? The guy at the top. Whether it's Microsoft and FORD or Mary Kay and Quixstar. The only difference is how they reach thier customers.

You know what people are called who don't allow pyramid scemes? communists!

We sell, Dish Network, Cingular, MCI neighborhood, FonVantage (VOIP) and a few other things so far. Ultimately we're just a marketing arm for Fortune 500 and 100 companies. We're also, the fastest growing company in the history of American business.

Quixtar

Yep -

Jump on now and ride the next big wave to financial freedom "The Internet"

I believe the Diamonds started in Amway.

If you can make it work, good for you; but as stated before, most people I talk to are well below me economically. When I see that change I just may become a salesman.

Caused my friend to fail out of school.

This hit a few people in my fraternity. A few people got really interested into it and they all tried to get everyone else into it. Some quit after a month since they weren't getting anywhere from it and haven't heard anything about it in our house since that long time ago.

Anyway one guy kept with it and all you saw in his room was XS energy drinks and some type of nutrition bar. He tried to sell them to everybody, but I think he lived on the stuff. After 2 semesters of never handing in HW and getting poor grades on tests failed out even after he changed his major to business. He spent all his time in Quixtar that he didn't do any school work.

Now he is working hard for 10$ an hour and only has the job to finance his business. He keeps talking about "financial freedom" when he is like 30. He works all day. I try to talk to him trying to say that its not working, but he can't see it. I just want to say that it is upsetting to see a member of your fraternity go, especially one of your better friends.

P.S. XS is Sh!t, that is why they don't sell it in stores.
