Hi, just wanted to share my experience on my first auto.

I started by hitting hold from eyelevel, and put it down nicely. Piece of cake. I just wanted to learn to turn on throttle hold.

Then I started flying by myself at eyelevel, hit throttle hold, put her down nicely.

Then I just increased the height until around 30 feet. Put her down everytime successfully.

I then autorotated this way for about 3 tanks.

I never thought I would be able to do one, but now it is easy (At least a normal auto). It feels great to be able to land that way.

Now I need to learn to land closer to me

Learning Autos

Hinke,

I just uploaded a copy of the Mike Mas Technical Document, "Learning Autos" to my web server for you.

http://hovercrew.com/articals/MasTechAutos.pdf

Give that a whirl.... Mike Mas is one of the greats in this hobby.

Awesome Hinke!!!

I have been trying to work up the courage to start practicing but haven't been able to so far. The thought of wrecking a perfectly good well set up helicopter is sooooooooooo counterproductive to the drive to practice...

Anyway, congratulations!!! Are they as much fun as everyone says?

yep.

It actually is a relaxing experience I could not get enough yesterday I did it for 3 whole tanks. Call me crazy, but I had so much fun.

I just worked my way up higher and higher.

I want to be able to get up at 100 to 200 feet, but I don't think that will be a problem.

The Sceadu with SAB 600mm blades auto very nicely. It takes a lot more negative pitch though from SAB 600mm blades than stock semi-sym blades.

One time I pulled full negativ, around -6, -7 and it really came down fast, but it had plenty of lift at the end.

Just don't pull positiv pitch too early, then it is hard to control it in a nice way.

Expect some hard landings at first.

Thanks for the document, jetsurgeon

Aah..it appears we are all on now...hehehe...i'm cheating in the office, well...it is 7pm so i'm allowed.

One question, you have a GV1 right? i just bought one with no real intention of bolting it on right now but out of curiousity, did you have to drill new mounting holes in the bracket to install the sensor? It says in the instructions that it is usable on 30 sized and 60 sized engines...what about 50 sized engines...?

yep.

Yes, I had to drill extra holes in the mounting bracket. I used the 60 size bracket.

I thought it was a pain to do this, since I don't have a workshop with the correct tools at home.

The best pilot at my field just did his first inverted pirrouting auto to upright pirroutting auto on Sunday...after this astonishing act of bravado...he remained pirroutting for joy the rest of the day.

As he landed, you could see the individual blade strokes as they went by on his Extreme...Jeeeeeez!!!!
