The problem with the idlers is that the bearing is not centered in the pulley. If it were centered, then the belt would place even pressure on the bearing and the belt would be stable. Adding washeres will only result in the pulley being held straight by contacting the washers adding another friction point.

Had the same problem with my early version of my belt drive, but cured it by centering the bearing in the pulley and then using a spacer from the inner race to the upper deck.

I have a friend with your conversion and he was wondering if you were planning on sending the washers to everybody.

I do plan to send out the spacers to all with the previous design. The only problem with this is that the bearings are not always centered in the idler bearings. I have found 1 bearing out of 10 that is not pressed in fully and might not work. (I might have the make the idlers in the future as the overseas version is not very consistant)

This is still the best option I have for the units out there!. We are now in production of the spacers to send out, and I am still waiting on the tail boxes to send out the next wave. I hope to catch up sometime soon.

Thanks everyone !

Ron

I do want to add. Now that I have the stepped washers in, this thing is performing very well. I was worried at the begining that my very loose belt setup would cause premature belt death, but my belt is holding up well. I have yet to look at the tail to see if I have any problems there. I just put in the century outrunner with a 10 tooth pinion. I am now pulling almost 1 amp less at full power and seem to be more efficient. Sounds like I have a higher headspeed also?

For the people that have the beltdrives already, could you make the washers a bit taller than needed and everybody could sand them down to fit?

Just a thought.

I ordered the mod last week waiting for them to work a few problems out. I sent a second email asking what the time frame is and I havent heard when it will be available again. His orders to my understanding have fallen behind because of the problems that came up.

If my Heli fleet were women I'd have a HAREM ! :)

All new orders will contain the spacers that hold the idler bearing in place and a few shim washers to take up the gap on the tail pulley if present.
I have not heard of any other areas that need improvement for the mod, however several people have requested an Aluminum Adapter plate and Aluminum tail pulley for the Bling factor ! This will come later !

I am also in the process of sending spacers for the idlers for all previous orders. Most people have not run into a problem, but I want the product to be solid.

Now for the bad news, I am still backordered as I have been concentrating on the areas that need improvement and stopped production until they got worked out. We are running parts again and I should be shipping again the 4 or 5th. All new orders will be around a 2-3 week delivery at this moment. I still hope to clear all the backorders very soon, not something I really like!

Thanks for the support!

Ron

My 3D-Pro is equipped with the helitech conversion.
I have done three modifications to this already very good conversion after I had my tail stop suddenly in flight due to a locked up tail pitch slider (not related to the conversion - more likely mainenance).
• Added stepped washers on both sides of tail pulley.
• Added washers to take out play on front idlers.
• Glued insert to front pulley. (The front pulley is supplied with a plastic insert to step it down to main shaft diameter. The insert seems to be press fit to the pulley. This insert came loose as my tail pitch slider locked up and the tail stopped spinning.)

I keep a flight log since 12.19.05.
I have flown 29 flights since - accounting to 4.1 hours trouble free with this conversion and the helicopter.
11 flights are hovering and slow maneuvering indoors and 18 are sport flying outdoors with some mild aerobatic (loops and rolls) included.
The lowest temperature I have flown in was 34F and the highest 58F.
The belt is set to low tension – I would call it loose.
I had one occasion, where I found the belt about halfway up the pulley after landing.
Just pushed it down with a screwdriver- it stayed there since.
All other flights my belt stayed low.
Power comes from a century outrunner motor – the one sold for the 3D- Pro.
I have experimented with a 10 and 11 tooth pinion so far (the motor comes with a 13 tooth). The 10 and 11 are good suited for my current sport type flying. The 11 seems to be the best considering draw and power. I believe the 13 will be excellent for 3D.

All up weight is .975 lb.

I can honestly say the conversion made this helicopter trouble free for me.
The standard shaft tail is probably good for somebody who is very careful during assembly and never strikes the tail.

I've been searching like crazy and I can't find a website for rchelitech. Where do I go to place an order for a HB belt drive?

My HB glitched and I destroyed the gearbox, tail blades, tail links and whatnot. Time for a upgrade.

Thanks
