Rumor on RC-Groups says Hubdave passed away. Rerazor, I know you worked with him before. Is it true? How sad

Cheers! Dave is alive. According to RC-Groups someone called him at home and his wife said he was out about.

How funny rumor can spread out so fast on the internet.

Ooops. I was the one that spread the rumor. Lessons learned.

Just ordered bunch parts from drive product. While I was ordering I realized that they have defferent part numbers for metric and english units.

Does that mean 3mm belt is a little narrower than 1/8" belts? the pulley will be thinner too? Anyone has experience with that? Let us know. Thank you in advance!

Haven't get it in the air yet.

I know, I know, But I have to go to the darn office to earn money for baby diapers.

Any how, Cuda gave it a cool name and it's a keeper. It's offical (will fly or not). "SHO-PRO" it is.

There be Pulley's !!

I needed to shorten the top of the mounting plate some, no big deal. Short of that it will fit just fine, the guides are in a good location, the boom fits on and the 397 tooth belt is too long.

This shows the plate and the clearance to the pulley.

This is how many teeth are left - too many we need a shorter belt.

The underside of the adapter and how the belt runs.

It would be better to use a single flanged pulley for the main, this will allow the pulley to clear the front mount, we don't really need both guides on the main pulley. The belt really can't go very far with the tail boom as a guide. The pulley needs some major adapting to mount it to the main pulley, this might be a tricky area for those that don't do much hacking. This would not apply to Garage_flyer.

I am considering creating a small adapter to allow the new pulley to be mounted to the shaft as the original once was. The pulley will need to be first machined to shorten it and remove the mounting area. Not required if one wanted to do the work themselves.

Just an update on current status.

thanks for the update rcracer.

i actually mocked up the pulley system after you got me the boom offset measurement and i thought it might need a shorter belt.

i came up with 30.53"...the closest belt i found was 388t 31.04" belt....tho i forgot to look at the metric sizes...maybe something closer if that doesnt fit. FYI, it's part "A 6Z16-388012"

if it ain't broke…break it.

Yes the main pulley will have to be modified. I mounted the main pulley to the main gear by thru bolting it (thru the man gear, one way bearing, main pulley).

I also made the boom longer in order to make it flyable with the 397t belt and suggested earlier that a shorter belt would be better.

Getting closer......

My question is does it look like the stock boom will work? Will 3mm belt be even narrower to fit the stock boom better?

Also looks like your boom mount has been lowered a little. Is it now lower than the stock position or is it about the same.

Maybe I should waited rather than build my Sho-Pro . It was fun. And hopefully I will catch some air tonight.

I suspect the 3mm belts are really the same as the 1/8" belts. With that said the .18mm saved from 1/8" to 3mm would be slightly better in the stock HB boom.

The best I can tell the stock HB boom does rub some at the tail end. The 8 or 9 tooth pulleys would be the hot ticket for that problem. That's assuming the rubbing is even a problem.

The idle pulleys work very well, but I suspect a 4mm wide bearing would be just as good. With the idler pulleys this will help to guide the belt into the boom and keep the belt on the main pulley.

The boom height did not change more than .5mm at most. The plate in the photo is not attached to the top HB aluminum plate, this is due to the fact I have the holes in the wrong spot Prototypes!!!

I should have ordered a 390 or 388 tooth belt, we have some adjustment in the boom mount.

I am glad you didn't wait on the Sho_Pro, it goes to show what is possible. I am just waiting to hear how well it flew !

How big of an Garage do you have? I could not even consider flying even a HB in mine!

Main pulley mod done.

Here is a photo showing the main pulley on the shaft. The plastic pulley needs to be modified for this setup, I machined out the center shortened it, then glued a new center hub into it. This uses the same pin that the old gear used. No changes here.

You can see the mount needs a slight adjustment in the upper step and hole location as the boom has a downward angle right now.

For a simple test, I put a shaft in the tail pulley. Holding this by hand was able to power up it up. No gear sound here!
This is going to work !

Now I will create the first batch of adapter plates in black, and start to work on the tail section. I am considering creating a new tail box (Like the shogun), but with the sizes we need to would replace the current HB and still use the rest of the HB parts.

Cost is an issue, I figure using more of the stock HB parts will save funds. However there willl be a cost in using my Tailbox if I do it.

Bottom line, this gives everyone options. I will offer the adapter plate for those who like to mod, and a more complete setup that will have all the custom parts.

I still need to get this airborne, after that I will make the stuff available. A few more weeks (Not Century time!)

What is even more amazing to me, I have access to better resources then most. This process has not been that hard, if I had the resources that century has this would be so simple and cost so little to make available to all.

very nice. what'd you end up doing to take up the slack in the belt? how much did you end up shaving off the 48t gear?

my parts should be in this week...early next week at the latest...everything is slow boating from the east coast

if it ain't broke…break it.

The belt is still long, I have a 385 tooth belt coming in. This I figure should be very close.

I will put together some better details in the pulley mod. They are not as they first seem. There is a center rib holding the pulley to the center hub. I ended up removing that whole center section and attaching a small section of delrin with the slot for the pin to the pulley.

The other option is to attach the pulley to gear as rerazer did. Should work just as well, I wanted to remove some of the bulk and I am a bit fussy at times.

dang! 388t was the shortest one i ordered. better set another barge in motion.

the only thing i didnt mock up in my belt calculations was the shogun tailbox. i figure its close...but, im hoping a little further back than stock. may take up 3-5 more teeth

if it ain't broke…break it.
