thanks GF...i had already voiced that concern to rerazor as well. he is looking at it as well. i need to buy a CP plate for my upper deck now and i can start mocking up.

also, i may have a source of CF plates only needing to be trimmed to length--i think the co. i work for sells them lemme dig in our catalog.

hey G_F, hows it feel to have your name in lights? i think the nick 'GF tail mod' is sticking.

if it ain't broke…break it.

Sounds great, almost as good as "have you bought those ZOOM blades from Walmart yet?". Too bad Walmart doesn't sell GF tail mod.

Don't buy CP frame just yet. I will try to make a aluminum bridge to bridge the stock upper frame to the turned around boom mount. It may not work, will report either way.

Also I will give everything to you (Cuda) to finish (and to own). Now you will have everything from me and Rezazor, so don't screw it up as thousands of 3DP owners are waiting for the final product.

About using the Shogun tail GB and tail rotor. I don't know Shogun's tail boom's ID. If it will mate to 3DP's OD. If it works, we can cut a small portion of the 3DP boom use it as an adopter from the boom mount to boom. And cut Shogun boom to length, then mount the Shogun tail on directly. It will replace the stock boom with shogun's and make more room for the belt to move around in the boom also making the shogun tail a direct fit. Will try tonight as well.

Theres no need for my oak mounts anymore.

CF top frame.

Keep it simple. The 3D boom will work. A little double sided tape and the Zoom tail case fits very snug. 100 times better than the stock 3d pro case.

I am sure stock boom will work. I just like the bigger booms better. Specially this blue one. There is also CF boom for shogun.

What kills us is the Gear box for $9 and Yoke for $12

Maybe Zoom's parts are cheaper. Let us know where is the best place to get them.

Cuda, don't order any yet since I have the whole shogun sitting at home.

My LHS still doesn't have my Shogun V2 frame. . Only if I live in LA and can just go down to hobby people and pick one up. Oh, well I guess I will just help Cuda more to get this mod done then. If I get the frame done tonight, I will just tear down my Shogun V2 to start the other mod. Cuda, I can't go all the way to your work with the $3.00 + gas price. I will meet you tomorrow on your way home.

Rerazor, Can't find the 10T alum. pulley you mentioned. Please send link. Also they have belt guides with bearings. Are they any good? Which one should we buy?

Thank you very much.

Has anyone considered how this will affect the ballance of the heli?
Im assuming that the Zoom gearbox plus the belt will be heavier than stock, making it tail heavy?
Just a thought.

If you bling it, they will come :D

considered...but since rerazor already has it flying and we're just tweaking it a bit i have faith it will work just fine.

if anything, the longer boom (by about an inch by current estimates) will just improve tail authority. i havent weighed any parts yet...but, i'll bet it comes out at less than 10g difference at the tail. not taking any wagers on that tho

and, actually if weight is an issue you can counter it with ballast at the front of the heli. by my calculations, for every 1g added at the tail, we'll need 3 3/8g at the front to counter...so, nominal really. i could trim off that much fat by changing my 1500mah kokam for a tt1320.

if it ain't broke…break it.

Oh, forgot to post. found 1/16 X 1' stock aluminum at local ACE. perfect width and thickness.

Look at the idea of putting a long bridge between the stock upper deck and the turned around boom mount. Won't work for now. Right now I can only mounts them together with bolts and those bolts intrude the space betwwen the 2 decks. Unless we find some .125" thick pulley there is no room for the bolts. But if anyone can weld aluminum or epoxy the 2 piece aluminum together, it should work.

The main pulley width ends up being just under .430".

Total width from top of main pulley to bottom of one way bearing (including main gear) is .700".

Hope that helps.

I still think a piece of CF plate would make the top frame. You could just bolt it on top of the rear boom mount and shim the front motor mount.

Yes a costume CF upper frame would work very well, but Cuda can't find the perfect stock. Once the aluminum one work we can easily switch to any material of choice.

The frame mod is done. Time to pass it on to Cuda.

The 1/16 X 1" aluminum doesn't need to be this long. I just made it long so if it's needed for like mounting the belt guide, it would be there. Should be cut to length later to save weight.

The extra piece behind is a gyro tray made of aluminum sheet. Because I need to put washers to fill the gap of where the stock frame goes, I thought would be nice just extend it out as a gyro tray inplace of washers.

Still a few shims needed to make the upper and lower chassis completely paralle.
