This setup was first flown on 8-18-04. Details on original thread. Here's the final.
Details can also be found on www.AirWolfRC.com

This on board alternator system delivers 5.6 Volts at up to 3 amps with a head speed as low as 1400. The on board battery can be 1100AEL to give up to 30 minutes of "auto time". I never have to charge the on board batteries any more.

Raptor50

Fury Extreme

I will be at IRCHA on Sat & Sun for those that want a first hand look see.

Maybe an on board glow driver next ?

Do you see any drop in performance in the power available from the motor to the heli?

The testing I have done shows that the system uses about 2% of the motor power.

Less trouble to switch or charge batteries between flights IMO.

There are two types of people in this world. Those that drag themselves up, or those that drag others down. I guess we now know what type you are Gary.

Wolfgang, congrats! Looks like a great system!

Some people used to like putting a crank in the front of their car and give it a swing to start the car.

Me, I'm lazy and I don't like having to remember to charge the batteries periodically. Let's see . . . do I have enough in the battery for one more flight ?

Others feel the same way, why else would they switch to 4000mah LiPo's ?

I think I'll do the Evo-90 next.

Of course it was a put down. He was implying that the work that Wolfgang put into this is a waste of time.

nice.

Let us know. I am just finishing a zero-g rappy. thinking about battery choices and would have done it on the gasser but I would have to do some extra work since my swash is spun 180.

Looks like a hassle free way of flying...

Is this setup using a regulator to keep it at that voltage, or does it go up and down.............also, when can we expect to see a starter motor installed.

Looks Cool.

Just like a car system holds at 14V for a 12V battery,
this system will hold at 5.6V for a 4.8V battery.

On board glow, possible, on board starter, not on the horizon.

I've made an onboard glow timer circuit, and thought about making a charging system. I guess I'll have to make the starting system.....that is if your not going to. It might not be practical, but who cares.

I DO believe that AH-1 pilot is jealous.

This is the 2nd time he's tried to hijack my thread.

Wolfgang, don't be silly...lol

Ref...AirWolfRC said.. "I DO believe that AH-1 pilot is jealous.

Wolflgang,

First of all, we all contribute to the hobby, in one form or another. When a thread is posted we can comment and also share relative information on the topic presented. Don't be silly, and say one is "jelous", that is childish and has no place here. As you are proud to show your work here on various threads, so are others. I've never said anything negative to you, as a matter of fact, your mounting setup of the AXi generator is nice! We both are using the same AXI with regulator and have chosen to mount them differently. to share information, relative to the thread, is what this is all about. Some people have not seen my setup, which runs off the start shaft, allowing charging and power for the receiver, as soon as you start the engine, it also charges during practice autos. Yours is turning off the main gear, it is another option, but has limitaions compared to running off the start shaft....but they both will do the job.

Anytime I see a new thread about onboard alternator/generator, i get excited and want to show what I've done also. My link has all the testing data that some may find interesting as well.

Let's keep the focus and no hard feelings!

Be safe.

Michael
