Jcrack,
You saved me from rating this heli as not much more than a toy!
Using this thread as a guide I converted mine in about 15 minutes using a GWS 6 channel receiver.
The GWS receiver just about fits in the old receiver space. I used a little bit of tape to keep it there and that was it!
The best part is that there is little to no weight gain and lets face it, the 4-1 gyro combo works just fine.
It works great with my 10X or my 9303.
Suddenly the head speed is right. The pitch curve is where I want it and 3D flight no longer raises the pucker factor!
Thanks man!
BTW, The Horizon Customer Service Rep pointed me to your thread. He had done the same thing.

Throttle

Normal curve L - 0
Normal curve 75% - 70
Normal curve - 100

Idle up L - 100
Idle up 50% - 80
Idle up H - 100

Pitch

A straight line in all modes 0 - 100

I don't know the actual pitch in degrees.
I just increased it until it pulled well in both positive and negative and didn't kill the head speed at the extremes.

Did you go to the 3 cell Lipo and 9 tooth pinion?

Ray,

Run the throttle at 100% in ID mode. I use Normal to spool it up safely then flip to ID 1 for wide open throttle for all flying. It will not blow up or overspeed. The KV of the motor and gear ratio will not let it damage anything. The t/r will hold better since the main motor is more constant and things will run cooler.

Make sure you have the AEK installed for LI-PO use too! The heatsinks are a must as the pinion change.

It will fly very good and if you hear it bog you need to reduce your pitch or get less agressive on the sticks as the pack dumps. I fly all my e-helis this way. Even the large ones.

Ron,

really....wide open the whole time?

does this cut down the flight time? It must....

Yup, wide open.

This works with collective pitch e-helis, like the BCP, that have been optimized. The motor/pinion and LI-PO 3S will function perfectly at full throttle. In fact if you are flying any e-heli that allows you to set the throttle curve up I highly suggest this. I have run tests with a full throttle set up vs. what some would use like in a glow/IC heli. You can get more time, could be up to 1 min total or so...by doing the full throttle set up. What is more important is temps are down on the motor and ESC if run wide open vs. some sort of throttle curve. When the voltage is up the amp draw goes down as does component temperatures. Ever notice how warm things get at the end of the pack? Temps rise as voltage drops. Temperature is exponental...1 second all is ok then it climbs quickly. This is also a good reason NOT to fly till the very end of any battery pack. Once you notice power dropping you have time but holding that prolonged hover as power dumps is not a very good thing.

All my E-helis, even with brushess motors fly at wide open. I have the JR VoyagerE - stretched, various BCP's and my JR Venture50E proto-type that flies on 8S all set up this way. Again I have set them up with the correct gear, motor KV and packs - meaning cell count in LI-PO's. Everything runs cooler since the ESC is not holding back the voltage. ESC's run warm and use up valuable MAH's in e-helis if they are used like a dimmer switch or gate.

Even folks flying M/A Ions fly at wide open. Or so they should...

When I flew Nicads years ago with my Kyosho EP, Ray should remember this, I had it set to wide open too. That was early 1990's. I found by doing this I could simply fly the mainrotor head. It worked then and it works now the same. Of course you can only do this with adjustable Throttle Curves in a transmitter...so the stock BCP trans will not allow for this. But everyone doing this receiver mod to fly a computer radio should do this to unleash even more power and flying ability of the BCP.

Hope this helps....

ok...

I will try it out.

does the added speed on the head make the "sticky" problem worse...I did the washer flip mod already...but i still see the occasional sticky.

ps...thanks for all the info...it is great!!

Midwest,

It could but you should check out Horizon's site for the BCP bulletin. There are 3 items that can contribute to the sticky collective. It is outlined very well on the site. AND it is very easy to check/fix.

GOOD LUCK!

With the throttle set 100%, what do you use for a pitch cuve? Linear like the e-flite radio, or something else? Thx, Tom

I have my pitch window set up to be linear.

I do not use a pitch gauge since most gauges are too heavy and effect the linkages and give a false static pitch reading.

I set top and bottom for what the heli can handle in flight. Say +9, 0 -9... it could be slightly more. The heli should be flown to be fine tuned for pitch end points.

I do center T/C stick for ZERO on the blades...as least from what you can eye-ball. With the throttle wide open the mainrotor disk rpms are very stable and you are simply flying the mainrotor head.

Just make sure you do have linear throttle curve in normal mode to spool the heli up from a dead stop. Once all is engaged and spinning you can flip to ID1 at wide open. The rpms will increase and that is fine. AND make sure you set the pitch window the same in the normal and ID mode. This way when you flip the switch the throttle is the only thing that changes. If the pitch is more the heli could jump off the ground at the same T/C stick position. Just the same the heli could sink and loose height if you have less in the ID mode when the switch it flipped.

First off I want to thank everyone for all these wonderful posts. I also want to thank Ron_Osinski for setting me up with the artical on the JR Receiver Hack and how to setup the JR XP6102. I just recieved my 6102 Rx Ultra LIte package the other day and started on the transformation. I used my Blade and the JR 610UL receiver. I did do a couple of things different. I went ahead and to the 3 n 1 side apart and unsoldered the 6 pin jack. I then cut down the JR 3" servo extensions and soldered them on to the board. I did this to help with a little weight, clutter and I could slide the receiver a little further back . (made me kind of nervous having the new receiver sticking out further than the 3 n 1 unit, since I am still a pro. at tanken it). I charged up my controller and started with the settings that Ron sent me. I can not express enough thanks enough for that info. I would be here for weeks trying to figure it out...LOL. But anyway, I got it all done and too my baby out for the first flight. UNBELIEVEABLE!! This thing flies like a whole different Heli. I was not expecting a totally night and day difference, but that is what I got. So much more stable and predictable. I am excited.... I am extrememly impressed with the JR XP6102, (being my first real controller) I am amazed how easy it was to learn the screens and setup. I love the flexibility of it and the smooth feel of the sticks. Awsome buy!
I am still running on the stock battery (i had a choice Tx or Li-po, Tx won..) but I am getting about 10 min. of flight and I have 2 packs so I figure I should be good until I can afford to get me some Li-Po's... I suppose i will let you all go, I was just so excited and impressed I had to tell someone and say thanksto all the wonder people and for all of the awsome information here. Thanks again all!!!

FlyHuge,

I am not sure if the 9303 sets up the same way, but I have my 6102 setup up with (Aile=78%, Elev=74%, Pitch=28%). These are the settings that Ron_Osinski sent me. The seem to work great. But just out of curiosity I am going to play with them a little. I hope this helps, if not, I just thought I would try.
