Thanks a lot!!!

At least some truth came out. 5.8lbs
What happened to 3.4lbs?
2.4lb battery?

Good thing I saved $250 and now I will at least have a .46 trainer to fly.

This Century's setup is ~$2000. My car cost less than that (not really).

I think I am in the wrong hobby

Or maybe I am looking at wrong place.

Can some one tell me if my setup will fly anything else? Maybe little quikie 8.

BYE Century

I ran out of expressions. HELP! HELP!

The weight is 3.4lbs w/brushless motor and servos.

The 3.4lbs, does not include battery (1.45lbs), a Tango 45-10 motor (heavier than the original brushless motor in the prototype Swift) and various tie wraps, velcro, and rubber bands.

The setup listed is just a sample of what some high end customers want as a hot 3D performer. The electronics are very high end and this setup was used for thrashing around to see what the mechanics can handle. You can go with a less powerful motor, run a 16T pinion gear, and NiMH battery pack for very confident sport machine.

G_F: have you been following the other threads on this bird. the Tango and Neu motors have been in the rumors for a long time. shouldnt come as a surprise--tho theyre always spoken of as 'high end'. nothing really about the 'just hovering around' specs. i guess if youre gonna dump 2 large in a rig, you dont wanna just float around the back yard.

here's one:

http://www.rotorworks.net/showthread.php?t=802

and, the one here:

if it ain't broke…break it.

If possible at least I can start hovering with my 2826. Later when I am ready I can buy the "3D motor".

Also I have not seem a scale doing 3D (maybe just me). I want a swift because I want make a Jet Ranger out of it. I figure that Swift is based on a Hawk, and Hawk fits .30 scale bodies. I am not sure but thinking J Ranger body weight about 10 Oz. So if I can hover the Swift with my GP3300 (NiMH) battery then I can hover it with my Li-pos and the body on. Again, the worest I can do is sell the swift and get me a new Hanger9 P-51 ARF.

doesnt that defeat the purpose of 'scale'?

the plank guy's would look start talking behind your back if you tried to hang an ME-109 on its prop. hell, they'll give you crap if you dont put enough rudder in a turn.

maybe the scale heli guys are different--im too new to the dark side. but, i've never seen a jet ranger do a tick-tock or a funnel.

just giving you some crap

if it ain't broke…break it.

Can't give up on heli yet. I went home and grandma told me my son (19 months old) has been waiting for me the whole day. What was he waiting for? Going into my work room to play with my heli.

He always loved it when I was hovering in the bedroom with the "naked" hummingbird. Yesterday the Bell 222 V2 Kit showed up at my front door. This morning my son saw it and wanted to play with it. He was told by grandma not to touch it until dad's home. So he had been waiting and waiting.

I removed the fragile tail and let him hold it. He raised it over his head and pretent that he was flying it. For half an hour he won't let go and "flown" the heli everywhere inside the house. Where did it land? On top of the top shelf with the Mini-Z and 1/10 road car (where I store my RCs that are too fragile for my son to play with). So what I need? An E-Maxx heli that's tough enough for both me and my son.

Guess the "cheap" Swift is back on the drawing board.

See, cuda, this is what you will be dealing with in 19 months. So be prepared.

Sorry this post doen't belong here. I will try to focus on Swift from now on.

The addition didn't workout (adding up the weight), let's try subtraction.

Quikie 8 weights in at 4.9 lbs (if they are honest on numbers). And it is powered by a 2826/10 motor and 4S packs.

Say Swift is 5.8 lbs (if it's true), therefore it needs to be on a diet for 1 lb.

They use 1.45 lbs of battery (23 Oz). My 4S comes in at 11 Oz. Here is a 12 Oz savings. My motor is a 100 g lesser than Tango, and my servos will be 80 g lighter. That's another 6 Oz.

So I should be able to keep it right around 5 lbs. Which should hover with a 2826 motor. The trick is to keep it around 30A where Max. efficiency is.

Sounds like it will work, at least for "naked" heli.

Project "Cheap Swift" starts here. The goal is to have a flying Swift for under $1000.

I wish myself luck.

using a quickie as a guide is not a good idea. it is smaller and is itself very heavy for its size.

Handy project none the less, an economical swift power package.

Hey garage_flyer,

The name always gets noticed, it came about after a web site even course I took. At the time I was heavily into my cars and the stereo's, the ICE refered to In Car Entertainment.
The name, Cool As ICE, I kept when I went self employed as a CAD designer, as it's catchy no one forgets me except when it comes to paying me.

It is indeed a shame your to far away for some lessons, although I could do with a holiday

I agree with OZ.....

5.8lbs in the Big "E" helicopter arena, that's considered light.. If Quick8 comes in at 4.9lbs.. Son, that helicopter got weight issues, for it's size.

One thing to note here regarding weight, Is that the swift can (we are told) use 550 blades. That puts it right in the league of 30 size glow machines that typically weigh right around 7 lbs.
So the swift at under 6 lbs should be extremely light and nimble compared to its slimer brethren.
The swift also has genuine thrust bearings in its head, all pivots ballraced too. Light 3D style paddles. Composite swashplate. not bad for $225
For comparison the Logo 10 3D kit which gets you thrust bearings etc goes for $479. no motor, but you do get main blades. Remember that the Logo 10 is limited to 515 blades.

Thanks Ddang

Thank you Mr. ddang for starting the topic, and got me thinking too. By the way you disappeared on us.

Just preordered mine. This will be my fall project, the first "full" size e-heli under $1000.

The reason I am into it, is that .30 scale body should fit it. Then I will have a nice looking E-Heli, not for 3D but just for backyard enjoyment.

About the "3D" part. We see tons of pictures and videos of pilots doing "3D". But I think there is no more than a few thousands of 3D pilots around the world. Just like the RC cars, millions spent millions $$ to bling their car/truck to pro standards, but only a few can race like a pro. I am a casual flyer and enjoy relaxed flying and bashing cars / trucks. I am sure there are thousands like me who are just having fun rather than "3D" all the way. They may not post here crazy like me, but they sure love the hobby as much as me. I am hoping that Century will support "us" as much as their factory pilots and help us in the effort of none-3D flying.

Just realized that I will be in China from mid Sept. to mid Oct. That should be the time when first batch of Swift ships out. By the time I come back you guys should have a lot of the things figured out. So I can just relax and follow the tips you guys posts.
