My Posts This: Topic Forum | Switched modeSwitched mode is where you have fast switching to effectively reduce the voltage. The frequency of switching is very fast.
eg 240 volts switched 0.01 ms on, .23ms off gives 12 volts average.
non-switched is where you'd typically have a beefy transformer, so if you need 12 volts out @ 25 amps (300 watts) you'd have 240 volts 1.25 amps in (plus some for losses). Switched supplies tend to be alot lighter and cheaper but need to be designed fairly well.
