First of all, I am very interested in a US coast guard H60 ARF fuse. Is the Century one of EXCELLENT quality? How do you hook up the tail drive? by wire or torque tube?

Secondly, I have a freya91, an SE80 and a fury so which would be the best and EASIEST to install in above fuse? I also have an option to buy a very cheap SE98 which I can use for the same purpose...

Please let me know your honost experiance here, and thx in advance

I was very impressed by the one I bought. I clearcoated it to protect the finish and thats about all it needed in terms of finishing. The windows were ........ not too good but they fitted in the end. The landing gear is crap and needs a good rethink, but I used the one they supplied. I soldered it together in situ so if it ever has to come out, I'm in trouble. I also converted the single rear tailwheel to a double one which is correct on the Jayhawk, and moved it a long way forward from the kit suggested position which is for the Blackhawk.

The mechanics suggested are Xcell and the attachments are all geared up for it so go that route if you have a choice. I used Graupner Uni 2000 which worked very well as I wanted a shaft drive and the output on those mechs is very low.

The kit comes with a cable drive and if you want to use Xcell mechs, its the only way to go. The TR drive is simply too high unless you want to go the multi gearbox route.

The TR servo needs some careful thought on its position. They have revised their suggestion that it is fitted just behind the mechs but dont offer a better suggestion. I cut a hole in the fin and fitted a Multiplex micro V2 speed servo in there and it works perfectly, but trimming the hole up in a prepainted fuse may be a problem for you.

I hope that helps

Thx Peter!!

So, I think I will go w/xcell mech and a flex tail drive. Do I need any mods to the mechanics or the hardware that comes with the kit? I am sorry to ask all these Q's, but the Century guy was not informative enough!
Does the flex drive present any reliabiltiy issues under regular scale flying but a lot of it? Does the flex shaft work well with a 401 Fut Gyro?

Do the doors open smoothly and are desinged well? Is it Epoxy or Polyster glass?

Any way, I will be getting it when I secure the Xcell mech pro. May bug you for more help later

Century Blackhawk

Ehab

Hello
I am in the first stages in building the Century UH60. It is not a bad body but as Peter said some things are lacking. I am making a Scale MH60G Special Ops version and I plan on changing many things.

The landing gear is trash and I just ordered some parts that I will try to adapt to get the correct results I am looking for.

The cargo doors are so so and you will have to customize the rails to make them work correctly. Century needs to relook at them.

As many people have said on this BB their bodies are good but their instructions are lacking. The windows have much to be desired but they can be worked out. I plan on customizing them so it does not matter. I do not have the mod for TR servo so if peter can send a photo I could use it.

You will find that the gunner’s doors do not exist in the body like the photo, you will have to cut and make them your self. That is where I am now.

Century does not use windows in the cargo doors due to ventilation. I plan on making the engine intakes and all other actual vent holes to compensate for this so I can fly it with doors open and closed.

I am trying to engineer a reverse servo setup if it is possible so I can scale the cockpit and gunner/crew chief area. I just have to have my mini guns.

I have an X-Cell gaser for the mechanics with a shaft drive. Multi blade main and TR. Still waiting for the 45 degree Gear box’s should be in, in 1 week they say. Sort of stuck at that point.

I am continually looking for helpful tips

Well it is late and have to get back to work.

The kit comes with the tail drive cable and hook up parts for the Xcell, but it does promote the use of the Century Tail Rotor gearbox so you may a have a little work to do in that area for the Xcell part.

I only used a flex drive once and that was with a CSM gyro. Never again!!! Now I use shaft drives. I really do like a locked in tail. The 401 in normal mode with a flex drive will be ok both will move around a little. If you are happy with that then you wont have any problems. I am VERY picky on tail lock so put that into context.

The glass work is polyester of course and the doors are flatish panels which fit into grooves on the heli which represent the runners. I have fitted windows in mine and leave them in position when flying. The Uni mechs and big head OS61 have excellent cooling and I have not had a problem. The doors have magnets glued to them and magnets in the fuse to help keep them in place when flying. With a little work you could make them slide nicely

Ehab,
I have a new Xcell ST with OS 61 that'd work in that fuse for sale if you're interested. Go here.

I was going to use them in a Vario fuse but decided to stick with the Vario mechs instead....

Thanks!

Again thx for the help.

I do have some concerns re: the century product after reading this column and some stuff about their service. Also, I just missed out on an xcell PRO for $350!!!! (Caliraptor: Make me an offer I can't refuse!)
I am converting my own PRO to a Bell 222 Funky fuse. coming along great, no mods, just bolt it in and go. I am even using the CF tail boom and drive and tail servo, boom mounted. This is the way I want to get into scale more deeply ....well, for now anyway!!
Will keep you posted

Are you able to keep the drive shaft coming out the back of the x-cell mechanics at 90 degrees to the mainshaft, or did you have to change the angle the drive shaft to fit in the fuse? I realize you have to use a gearbox to get the shaft up to the rotor at the tail end, but I am curious about the end that attaches to the frames, I would like to keep away from the speedo cable drive.

Thanks

I am using 3 45 degree gear box with shaft drive.

The mechanics set a little high si I have it going out to 1 gearbox short shaft to 2nd and then long shft to the tail then the 3rd box up to the TR.

Someone showed me theirs and it is solid so that is what I am setting up.

Cable BAD real BAD

gear box

I got mine from century but Robbe also sells one. Try them.

I am not sure the connector ends that Robbe uses, the ones from century are like the dogbone connectors.

I just ordered my blackhawk from Century. I plan on building the USAF version, the pave hawk.

Does anyone have the robbe or hirobo part numbers for the 45 degree tail gearboxes?

gear box

Well I just talked to Brian Anderson at century again and check with them on Monday. Snail Mail he seems to think that it will not arrive until late and by monday they will know what came in. I warned him that several people were looking for them.

If you can wait, you can call Joe howard at east coast scale and get one from him. He sells Vario units.
