So is it...

the fact that is a Hitec crystal....I thought they were compatible.

I do get some glitches from the stock radio and crystal...an I was hoping this was going to cure it.

Anyone had this problem...

Factory Reps...your opinion is welcome as well...

Thanks but

Aileron bail....that was not the question...
I meant did anyone have the problem of glitching really bad...by bad I mean crazy can't even leave it plugged in bad when going to a different crystal other than what came with it.

I half wonder if I got a dual conversion crystal in a single conversion package...the crystal that came with the heli was shorter by about an 1/8th inch than the crystal I bought (which happens to be the same size as double conversion crystal I already have) so I am raising an eyebrow.

i dont know about the hitec crystal but all im saying is that i put a single conversion futaba crystal in the reciever and am using my futaba 8u super and its working great---not even a glitching problem that i had before----it sounds like you might have a dual conversion crystal instead of the single conversion---i tried a dual conversion and mine did the same thing ---just went crazy every time i booted up the reciever........i would try a futaba crystal and see what happens........let me know if that solves your problem.......joe

Just be careful if your not using the Rx manufactures recommended Xtal which is usually their own brand. There should not be a lot of difference among the type of xtals we use in our Rx's, however as it turns out there is a lot of difference in Xtals from manufacturer to manufacturer as in PPM, Q Factor and so on. I did not realize this until I was engineering some 900mhz controllers for the Sony Playstation a few years ago. Once I started looking at each Xtal manufactures spec's and what the RF chip set required I quickly learned not all Xtals are equal even though they looked the same and were clocked the same. Range check if your not sure with your antenna fully collapsed. Remove the prop if its a plane or use Headloaders if its a heli and have fun, but play it safe when mixing Xtals in your Rx....

I will try the futaba brand

hopefully that will work...

Just to make sure I did not miss something...as long as my 9c is in ppm mode...this should operate the single conversion 4 in 1 right...there is no other settings related to frequency/modulation?

Ok...then

I will spend the dough to get one more crystal and if it still goes crazy than back to Horizon it goes.

I am having a lot of fun with this heli in its stock config...I just wish it would not glitch so bad.

Is there an easy way to identify single vs. dual conversion xtals? I have a Futaba and a Hitec xtal for my ch14 7CHP but neither works in my 4in1. It just blinks red/green like there's no communication. I'm guessing they must both be dual conversion and just won't work?

Fly it like you stole it, or at least have a lot of spare parts....

Skid, Futaba dual conversion Xtals have a Red paper around them that identifies the Ch and frequency 72.xxx Single conversion Xtas have this paper ID tag in black. Both Rx and Tx are this way. I just purchased a new Futaba PCM dual conversion DP149 9ch and we had to change the Xtal to my club issued frequency.

Both the Tx and Rx must use all Black or all Red. You can not mix these as in running the Red color dual conversion Xtal in your Tx and then a Black single conversion in your Rx.

Also just a note in that I have had problems with Hi-tech Rx's using the correct Hi-tech Xtal with my Futaba 9C. It should work and I have ones that do, but this one just would not work. If your running this in a Heli please make sure everything is matched up and you have Zero glitches. If its glitching at all you should not fly and ask some club members if they can help with the problem and/or loan you a few Rx's you can further test.

Or box it all up and send it back to the Futaba or what ever manufacturer you have and get is SERVICED. I was stupid and did not do this about a year ago and lost my Ultimate bi-plane because of glitching and I did not send in the Rx for service. Someone could have gotten really hurt if it would have gone out of control. When it got way out in a turn it was like all servos when to there maximums in one direction and I watched is spiral into the ground. The rudder was glitching on runway flyovers and I should have landed it. My mistake your gain....

Mike, Thanks for the input! A 4in1 is a combination receiver/gyro/2 speed control unit. The BladeCP somes with one in RTF form.

Skid, Ok now I understand. I have a Picco with the 4 in 1 and it required a Futaba single conversion xtal, however I had to change the xtal in my Tx from Dual to Single. Is a pain as when I go back to my PCM for the Heli or Plane I have to change the Tx xtal back to the Red one. If you can't find a Tx Futaba Xtal I have a lot of them as I buy them here in Hong Kong real cheap. I can give you one if you want. Just make sure the 4 in 1 is using the correct xtal which is probably a single conversion. Also don't forget to set your Tx to PPM mode for transmitting which will also require you cycle the power after the change to PPM if you were in PCM mode. I'll try to past a picture here of what they look like. The really small ones are Berg which are the same as GWS, but a little better quality.

I'm glad I read this thread.

My Blade CP should be here this week, and I wanted to set it up for use with my Hitech Eclipse 7. Even though I have the Spectra module, and can set my transmitter to any channel, I was hoping to pull the crystal out of one of my QPCM receivers and use that. Everything else I fly is on CH.22 and I would prefer to keep them all on the same channel.

So do I need a single or dual conversion crystal based on my transmitter? Or is it based on the receiver?

Thanks,

Chuck

No I've never had to change my module except for when I was in the UK and needed to be on 40mhz. The 72mhz module will run Single or Duel Conversion Xtals.
