When using the tappered collet and older alloy fan hub, do you still put the engine thrust washer behind the collet?

I have - and now the engine is at the very bottom limit of the frame mounting bolts - there is ZERO vertical play on the clutch bell, I am worried that the the engine may even be putting light pressure on the clutch bell into the 1st clutch stack bearing

On HiroboTechnique it looks like the engine thrust washer was not used

Step 28 in the old Freya manual clearly shows that the engine thrust washer should be there

Thanks...

actually, on step 28 of my manual (first printing May 2000), it shows the
washer in the picture but the text reads 'thrust washer included w/ engine - Remove'.
which is highlighted text.

I'm 99% sure you do NOT want it installed, esp w/ the Oring and washer
at the top of the stack.

I wonder...

if I've installed the washer...the engine is right at the bottom of the mounting holes and I've got minimal play in the clutch. The assembly is running free so will leave it until I remove the engine for maintenance.

With the old hub, no washer. With the new E3 blue hub, it comes with a perfectly machined flat washer. It forces the hub on completely flat & self aligns - the washer under the propnut actually floats due to this!

Btw with my WC flywheel, whenever I put it back on, I forget the washer half the time! Can see why you need it as it's soft metal & wears in a groove.

Yeah, also have my engine at the bottom with 1mm for the clutch to spare.

Oh, when you bolt the mount onto the engine, push it up hard as you tighten to get the engine as low as possible.

Thanks Taipan, I've changed the clutch bell and gone from the Ex hub back to the std hub - I am trying to track down a shake in this machine (yeah - been there before with this bird)

When is your Avant going to be finished ?

It's wierd - both rotors running true and happy, both tail fins are still and crystal clear, but the canopy, fuel lines and heli in general are shaking

I've got a shaking in my Freya too - I was playing with the pipe length and got everything smooth then tached the headspeed at 2100! Then I lengthed the pipe and got the headspeed down, but it sometimes still gets the shakes in the hover, but not on higher throttle settings.

I need to tinker a bit more and see if lengthening the pipe a tad will fix it, I don't think its the engine mixture...could it be the stiff CX-2 dampners?

Webra 75

I'm trying to mount th EX fan hub to a Webra 75 and can't figure it out.
This origianl Freya hub mounted fine to this engine using a collet but the EX hub is keyed and the Webra crank shaft is not.
Do I need to grind a key slot in the crankshaft?

You can't mount the Ex hub on the Webra if it has no woodruff key - I would not have the crank machined - the original Freya hub is good, just use that - the main thing about the Ex hub is that you can just plug it on and forget about it - where as with the original Freya hub and collet it is best to dial gauge it to ensure best result (I had no problem getting less than 0.02 mm)
