Hi

the first couple of flights after sorting everything out with my eco were fine however for some reason it now has a wobble as if the tracking is out.

the tracking is out ever so slightly but if i turn one of the mixer rods half a turn either way it gets worse.

im positive it needs to be somewhere in the middle of half a turn so i tried to just rotate them enough on the ball however it still has a wobble.

the wobble now isnt quite as bad but it is very annoying just having it there.

could anyone please assist in this as it is really giving me a headache.

How's your rotor rpm? Too low & you'll get a nasty wobble - also, any crashes yet? Bent main shaft will do that too

im running it at 0 - 45.5 - 90 - 90 - 90% throttle with -2 through to +9 pitch range on the stock sport motor with 8 cells.

i did stuff it once however all shafts were replace with the hardened ones. flybar was replaced along with the main blades, main gear, paddles (just in case), tail boom and timing belt.

the wobble is probably about 1 inch either side of the position the skids should be and only starts once im about 4 inches off the deck and rotates at about one rotation per second or something.

the tracking is out but it is very slight maybe about 2 millimeters or something but i cant seem to get them to track any closer at all it seems to be somewhere in the middle of the magic half a turn for some reason.

Tracking can be off pretty noticably without causing anything like that, it's a higher frequency thing.

Do you have access to a rotor tach? Bet your rpm is just too low - bump that throttle curve up a bit more especially on the low side & see what happens.

Two other things I can think of that you should check.

1. The tail drive shaft, Ikarus only has the soft part, no
hardened one for this one, and it will bend easily if the
blades ever struck the tail boom .

2. Blade grip bearings; remove blades and all linkages from
each blade grip, and carefully move the blade grips on the
shaft. They should move COMPLETLY free as if they were
on air... . Be on the look out for any friction, lumpieness or
bumbiness ( for lack of better words ) of motion. Some times
you need to compair this to the motion with brand new bearings
to know what I mean.

Hi.

I went out to fly it this evening. there was next to no wind or anything so it couldnt get any better for testing.

i upped the throttle curve to 0 - 50 - 100 - 100 - 100 but for some reason when i did that i thought id try tightening the timing belt a touch at the same time.

hmmmm typical i wish id done them one at a time now coz it was miles better. it still did it though but it could of only been about a quarter of an inch and certainly wasnt oscilating under the rotor blades any where near as bad.

i have now tightened the tail pulley back even further to see what happens to that tommorrow to se if it is that that has improved it.

i have been looking at the tail pulley and tail output shaft shaft today for some reason if it aint any better after tomorrow i will pul them out and check them as i can feel vibration on the tail boom.

another thing that i have noticed is that the main gear does not run true it looks as though it is not on flat and seems to wobble as the motor picks up speed.

I've been able to hear the tail drive belt slapping the inside of the boom if it was too loose, I figure too tight is just adding extra drivetrain friction - it seemed to make a noticable difference in run times. My main gear does the same thing for what it's worth, doesn't seem to cause any trouble so I haven't worried about it

so it sounds as though it was because the headspeed was up then.

perhaps i should go a tooth or two up on the pinion to get it faster still.

ill check these shafts out to be sure there straight tomorrow i think.

With a stock brushed motor you are power limited - bumping the pinion up will probably just cook the motor faster, be careful there. The real answer is brushless power, but it'll set you back a couple hundred bucks - I'm using a Mega 22/20/3H with a CC Phoenix 45.

thats what i thought but the motor and battery pack seem to be quite cool at the end of the flight so i thought it might be worth taking a risk at one tooth more.

once i have burned this motor out i will then probably go brushless just have to see how much money i can stash without our lass knowing lol

And now a simple answer to your question. MAKE sure that the blade grips have the same amount of tension on the blades. Hold your heli sideways with the (top) head facing you and blades parallel to the boom. The blades should be tightened so they just kind of fall under their own weight. It is IMPORTANT that they are tightened so they have the same tension. This should solve your problem. Suss it out! Bill

lol... I will suss it out

flew it tonight and it had a bigger wobble on... darn thing.

loosened the timing belt right back as far as i dare... more power, speed and NOOOOOOOO wobble.

great flight with bags more time on the battery too i was soooooo happy i decided to piro and... clip.... there goes me blades. now its all about in bits on the dining table (our lass loves that) and it dont look to bad at the mo ill let you know what a state its in when ive checked it all throughout.

looks like my carbon blades are going on now lol and if nothing else it means ill get to give it all a good service.

I sure did but it doesnt matter now as all shafts need replacing now. Im going to strip it totally though and give it a really good check out and make all of the little adjustments i wanted to earlier.

i think it was just the headspeed that was making it wobble as this cured the whole problem.
