I am replacing a broken stabilizer control arm and I need to remove the paddles. However. the set screws are stuck in the collar insert. I am afraid I stripped the set screw. Is there an easy way to fix this (i.e. remove the set screw without damaging the collar or the paddle?

Also does anyone know if it is possible to buy the paddle collar seperately? According to the manual there is only a part number for the paddle itself?

Regards
RCfun.

Stripped set screws can be removed with a tool known as an Easy out.
Basically you drill slightly into the set screw and use this tool to remove them. Truth is it's probably cheaper to just get some nice aftermarket paddles and move on.

Also realize that you can use other manufacture (Raptor) paddles on the Sceadu Flybar. Anything that mounts to a 3mm rod will do.

Honestly even with the "easy out" tool it will be hard to remove the set crew, I've found that it only works about 50% of the time depending on how tight the screw was in place. You may have to resort to carefully drilling out the set screw without damaging the flybar - just take it slow. Stripped set screws are always tough to get out which is why it's good to have a decent set of hardened tip hex wrenches, such as Wiha, to prevent the stripping to begin with.

invest in a 1/16" hardened wrench. ever so slightly larger tahn
the 1.5mm so it fits better and can often grab what the 1.5mm cannot
after damaging the screw.

I'd also say that you should just get new paddles. Set screws can be a monster to take out and the screw extractors aren't really made for a hole as shallow as that of a set screw.

I once completely stripped my starter coupling set screw while it was in my heli...

Just replace with new paddles seems a sensible solution to me... then take your time to deal with the set screws, if succeed, you get a backup.

I once broke the head of hex wrench(the round side) while turning the M4 set screw on the starter coupling... I had to completely disassemble the heli to get the engine out

Now I only use best tools and treat those little stuff with my best respect!

I also recommend using a 1/16 inch wrench for these set screws. No matter how good your metric tools are, the small set screws don't have enough material to prevent the socket opening up when you tighten them down.

Another extreme method would be to glue one end of a 1.5mm wrench to the set screw with JBWeld, then remove the screw the next day. Then cut off the end of the wrench and do the other one. If you've got some old metric wrenches lying around this might be worth a try.
