My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Into the first tank of the day I was just hovering around when I saw somthing depart from the head. The heli started to feel funny but I managed to get onto the ground where it nearly tumbled over while spooling down.

Upon inspection I discovered that the two flybar control arms halfs had come apart. What I saw flying off the head was the centers balls and the rod connected to it. The two half are only held together with two tiny screws that barely screws into the other half. I think the screws stripped the plastic and the two halfs was pulled.

Lucky me the only damage is two missing balls, four links and two rods but it could have ended in disaster. Is this normal for the Sceadu and what might have caused it. I only run about 1650 on the head and have not done any wild flying.

I consider replacing the arms with the metal version so I can sleep at night. Will also change the flybar spindle just in case it might have become slightly bended.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		No thats not normal. I've not seen that one and the sceadu is the state bird here I think. Did you set screw the aluminum inserts into the flybar and also CA those inserts into the plastic arms? Being that small you also need to be careful not to over torque those little screws to not strip them out. Did the balls just fall out or did the cage also move outward?

certainly easy enough to do given the superfine thread, etc.

Not a great design.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		One of the two stabilizer control arms did move outward. Thats propably what gave the most impact to the flying. Both arms where cleaned and CAed to the metal inserts (also cleaned before gluing). I used thin CA here. The CA is still visible on the part that move outward.

I am sure everything was aligned very precisely - including the paddles. I have taken great care to assemble this heli right and it flew very nicely with no tracking or vibration problems. And it was trimmed perfectly with no Tx trim used.

I might have stripped the screws when installing the stabilizer control arms but I was very careful. I have about 2-3 gallons of fuel through this heli.

I consider replacing the stabilizer control arms with the metal SD-G version part 0412-209 (I would prefer not to use the Quick UK version as I like the color of the hirobo parts better and I assume that the quality and capability are about the same. If the hirobo one is hard to get I might go for the QUK however). I just need to locate a place in Europe that stocks them so I can get them fast. My local hobby pusher don't seem to have them in stock. When getting this upgrade are there any other head upgrade I should consider? I do have the metal radius and slide blocks.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Did the metal insert move out with it? If it did then it wasn't set screwed into the flybar properly. So that spinning at full RPM could possibly help pull the arm out.

But if the metal piece didn't move and the screws somehow stripped then the plastic part could have pulled away from the insert even with the CA. But mine were so tight I thought the CA was overkill.

I wouldn't go metal. I would just write this off as an oddity and try again.
