My friends evo woofs??? We've tried everything we can think of to stop this.
Its an Evo 50 with an OS50 Hyper and a Hatori muffler running TT600 blades.

So far we have glued the bearings in the grips, tried the metal head block, put on a govenor to stop any overspeeding, we've put on different blades (my gammas that don't woof on my evo)

We're going to start buying stock in Hirobo for all of the spindles he goes through.

The woofing is less pronounced when the engine is richer, he even tried the uniflow tank to keep the engine rich but so far, it still woofs.

He and I are about out of ideas.

The only situations where I've seen the Evo "woof" is very low headspeed due to bogging during heavy 3D. If you have a bunch of cyclic input and bog the head, the heli will wobble badly and you'll get woofs.

With the '50 engine, the pitch needed to induce this effect is very high, and the resulting forces on the head will bend the spindle.

Try raising the headspeed and use less pitch during the maneuvers that are causing the woofs.

Jeff, the machine has never been crashed right? I'm assuming all parts are in good shape.........

Did you check to see if his collective servo is screwed into the tray tightly or that the servo tray itself is still tightly connected to the main frames?

Check all the ball links in the head. I've noticed that the screws holding the balls on the mixing arms can work loose. What shape are the dampeners in? How tight are the blades in the grips? Are the thrust bearings oriented correctly - they will fit if installed backwards. The race with the smaller inner diameter goes to the outside.

Also, look for worn or sloppy ball links (the plastic part) and replace any that have a lot of play in them.

That's an excercise we do after every flight.

The heli isn't very old, He bought it this spring and its been doing this since it was new, so I doubt it is because of worn links.

Check the thrust bearings, then. Also, I've heard of some cases where mold flashing is in the bearing recesses which causes the bearings to bind when the spindle bolts are tightened.

This might sound like a dumb question, but are both the mixing arms in the same location on the flybar seesaw? IOW, are they both in "High Mobility", or "Auto Stability"? If they are different, it would probably cause it woof.

ok

I had the same problem with my evo and did a lot of figuring out b4 it was fixed.
1) between the thrust bearing and the outer bearing in the blade grips there is a washer make sure you did not 4get to put in.
2)make sure all the balls on the pitch arms are tight. They have a tendency to loosen out.If necessary put a dab of CA where the screws attach to the plastic arms.
3).If it woofed change the spindle regardless of whether u think its bent.
4)this is what fixed my problem.I noticed that my woofs appeared around or about 0 degrees. So with the help of of some one i found that there was slop in the servo around the 0 degrre point.I changed the servo and the problem disappeared

Hope this info helps....Raj
