I have a 30 Evo, TT39 engine, 9303, GY 401. I just put the Evo together.

When I lift the heli, I have a gyrating tail wobble effect at higher speeds, and cannot figure out how to correct it. For some reason, I believe it might be engine tuning but not sure. My friend has the exact same problem with his Venture, 662, 401, OS 32.

Any help would be appreciated.

the most likely cause is low headspeed even though you
think it's high, I'm willing to bet that if you actually measured
it w/ a tach, you'd find it was around 1500 or less.

did you lubricate the rubber dampers?

in addition to Z's comments, a badly running enging can create all sorts of vibrations.

is it just the tail or is the entire machine 'wobbling' ?

Hi Z. It is the entire machine. Sort of does a spiral wobble. I have checked everything, the spindle, blades etc. When I lean the engine out, it seems to be more pronounced. The blades are in track and all that. The delay on the gyro is set at 0.

Hope that helps.

Sounds to me like too low a headspeed coupled with hard head dampening.

Hence Z's comments about lubing the dampeners - try raising your headspeed a bit and see if it goes away.

Thanks, Man. I figured you must be monitoring from work or whatever there in England. It's going to be 87 F here today, and I am getting ready to go to work myself.

Anyway, By the dampers, I suspect you mean the rubber thingies around the flybar, yes, I did oil them, but will re check. By headspeed ( I am still a little new to this) I susect that I should lean it out? Thanks for your help.

No, don't lean the engine. You need to adjust your pitch and throttle curves so that at mid stick (or wherever your hovering point is) you have a bit more throttle and a bit less pitch.

And yes, I should be working...

Hi

You mentioned that you new to this... does that mean you are using a training (spider) gear?

When I was using the spider my Freya woobled extremely badly (spiral style) just as you mention it... it was so bad that I couldn't maintain a hover for more than 30 sec because I was afraid it would explode in mid-air.

After some suggestions on this forum, I removed about 5cm from each leg and increased headspeed to 1600 rpm... much better!... Only after removing the spider did the spiral death woobles go away.

my 2 cents

Cheers,
Tony

Excellent comments gentlemen. No, I am not using trainer gear myself. I acutally thought that may have been the problem with my friends heli as he was using them. I took them off and still had the problem. I think the ideas are excellent, and I particularily think that the Doctors idea may have something to with this. I will check out these things to see if I can come to some resolution. I am still trying to learn after about a year and really appricate the help.
