I had exactly the same crack. It is the result of a boom strike for sure. Look at direction of the rotor and everyone would understand... I would have liked to see the boom also but no the new recently bought...

Good try!!

If Carbon Extreme replace them that would be 'customer service'.

I would think a boom strike would do more damage to the Fin/Tail then what is shown in the pic's!!..... ....and would'nt you think if he had a boom-strike...he would know??.............plus...I just looked at my X-spec...If the blade where to hit the fin in reference to where its located on the boom...you would have damage to the boom aswell.

Incorrect, it only produces that damage. The fin is far more strong than what you believe, I am surprise!!

And to your other question: yes he does know that it is aboom strike, this the sad thing abou this post...

It looks like fatigue frature to me, caused by excessive vibration. Of cause this wouldn't happen if the c/f was thicker or the cut out was smaller leaving a wider rear edge.

Solution - new design of c/f fin or resolve the vibration problem

Fernando,
So.....you are questioning his integrity..??

Do you really believe that all this fuss os over a lie??....just to be componsated by a new fin??...or do you think he just wants to cause trouble??........I personally dont think so!!

Why don't you just say what your really thinking bro!!...?

If the blade hit the fin halfway along its rear edge as per the crack, it would surely remove most of the fin. The Freya vertical fin is situated a little way forwards from where the blades would hit the boom.

Fernando.

I have better things to do than lie about a boomstrike to get a free $23 Fin....I spend too much money on this hobby that a $23 fin is nothing to me but I do want the product to last if I paid for it.....Plus, if you look at my gallery, you can see the heli in one piece on the Sunday when I brought it home from the field. I took the pics as I had made my own decals...................It would be foolish to have 2 boom strikes in the same exact spot twice doing the same thing. So, think twice before judging someone's integrity. I have been a member of this site since 03, how long have you been a member? If I were a liar as you claim...I would have lied in the 2 plus years I’ve been a member.

On a side note:
Augusto called me yesterday and they will replace the fins. I asked to get the smaller one as replacing it with the same one may break again. I have to figure out what vibration is causing the big ones to crack. He said they will examine the fins that I sent back and make proper changes to the future ones if they think it is necessary. So in conclusion, that is what I call customer service........They went out of their way to make me happy and keep me as a customer.

Thank you.

Have you tried moving the boom struts to an alternative location on the main frames - normally down?

No Dr.Lodge

I have not tried that. Like I said, I did not notice any virations until the fin cracked than it was visable....So I never thought about trying to look for the cause as the bird flys perfect. This weekend I will try and figure out what it maybe. One of my buddies said he had a similar issue and he chaged his tail blades to fix the problem.

I'll try both your tip and his and see what happens....but its hard to figure out as I don't see any symptoms unless there is a cracked fin on there.

So you finally got your fin. I think it is a lot of noise and whimp for a fin. At least, I agree with you on this.

One of the things that amaze me more about this forum is that I look at interesting posts that receive so few hits and others like this one with so many.

Sorry Fasrc, I was trying to pull it to check how polemic attracts people... sometimes I am bored at work...

Another option might be to use the CX small 3D fin if they do one for the Freya, they certainly do one for the Sceadu.

Yes Dr.Lodge.

thats what the replacement one will be, i figured, no point in getting the same thing for it to break again unless I find the cause.
