Hello all,

I crashed my Sceadu Evo 50 over the weekend, pretty bad. Repair parts add up to about $280, I have a dilemma....Buy a new kit or rebuild?

Thanks,

Phil

realistically, a new kit is probably in order.

get an Evo 30. it's 95% the same parts except for the
engine mount, fan hub, gearing. Hopefully, you didn't
bust those too

Yea,

The clutch, clutch bell and gears went. The motor would not shut off. The part that the clutch lining mounts too was sheared off. The gears are stripped. It was a mess...

Buy new and whatever is left over you can use for spares down the road.

I agree, its a bitch but you will be happier in the long run. Wont have to worry if that bit you salvaged from the damaged kit is going to break.

Plus you get $40 tail blades. I guess you still get those?

I almost always get a new kit ( I have an Evo 30 and at $300 at my lhs, it is a deal). Then you will have the parts you will need for the next crash.

If the crash costs exceed 50% of the kit price, I usually go for a new kit. This gives you a collection of spare parts, not the least of which are replacement bearings and hardware (which might not have broken, but which you'll want as maintenance items in the future).

It is VERY easy to miss one or two "additional" broken or damaged parts after placing an order to repair the heli after a crash. The extra cost of the kit is also insurance against downtime waiting for these parts. Sometimes you don't realize something needs replacing until you try to fly again.

You mentioned that your clutch bell and gears were destroyed. You'll need the Evo 50 kit, since those parts are different between the 30 and 50.
