I just ordered a new Freya and OS 70 engine today. Couldn't pass up the excellent price. I have been flying 30 size helis up to this point and wanted to move up to a little larger more stable and powerful machine. Are there any upgrades that are desireable for this machine? Are there any particular quirks or things to watch out for on a Freya? I would appreciate any input available to those familiar with the Freya.

Thanks,

Congrat's on the purchase.............your gonna love it!!

A few things come to mind as far as quirk's on the freya..

Freyas don't like a low head-speed......you'll get a funny wobble if it's too low!!
Use 690 main blades and 95mm tail blades.
Use the 195mm main-shaft postion, which will give you the taller head postion and more clearence.
Put in CX dampners..you'll like that!!

thats all I can think of off the top of my head.....
I have never flown a freya 70....I fly a X-Spec 90 and love every minute of it!!..I would think those apply to the 70 aswell......I'm sure there's more things to add....but that should get you by for now.

414229 - Freya metal hub,
Freya main gear to a delrin gear, (Not sure of the part #)
414198 - Freya switch plate
404618- 3rd bearing block

And perhaps you may want to upgrade the fins to carbon fiber

RQ-1B DRIVER,

The 690's will auto better, I can say that....., I never used 680's.....so I could'nt tell you the difference in flight performance, but I would'nt think it would be that critical.
V-Blade 690's are my blade of choice for my X-Spec .90
The consensus for the best combination is 690 mains and 95mm tails.

Thanks to all for your opinions and advise. I can't hardly wait for the heli to arrive via UPS. It should be here by the end of the week or the first of next week at the latest. Who said that you can't have Xmas in June or July!!! I have been to three fun flys so far this year and enjoyed them very much. I hope to attend two or three more before the end of the year and am sure I will have even more fun with the Freya.

Thanks again,

The Futaba 9C Super PCM Syn. radio arrived today. That just seemed to raise the level of excitement. I am still waiting for the heli, engine, exhaust, servos, gyro and battery. All shipments should be here by the first of next week. I had a very close call with one of my 30 size helis today. It was a bit breezy and I was flying towards me over some medium size gullies when it suddenly rolled over inverted. I understand that the same thing has happened to many of the planks when it is windy and there is turbulance from the gullies. I wasn't very high but I kept my head and finished the roll in the direction it was going. As it came upright, I also gave it full throttle and collective which stopped the downward plunge only about three feet above ground. I was so shaken that I set the heli down where it went out of sight into one of the gullies. Fortunately, the heli sat down gently in some tall weeds and was not damaged. I will still check it closely before it flys again.

Best wishes and good flying!

Anticipating the arrival of my new Freya with gleeful excitment.

I would get the push pull collective upgrade kit. It saves a lot of wear and tear on you servo.

My new Freya Eagle kit, OS 70 engine, Zimmeman muffler, Futaba 401/9254 gyro/servo combo and Futaba 9202 servos arrived late yesterday. I got a good start on putting this new heli together. It should be a nice package for a fairly new heli pilot like me. I have been flying 30 size helis for about a year now and I am still at the stage where I just hover and fly around. No 3D or stunts as yet. I'm looking forward to playing with my new Freya.

I don't think anyone mentioned the most crucial upgrade of all - metal radius block. The plastic part doesn't hold. Might want to get the metal sliding washout block too while you're at it.

I'm using most of the above upgrades - delrin gears all round (incl tail take off pinion), collective push-pull, switch bracket etc. And am using Vario 670 blades, OS91 with 970 pipe - wicked
