CP2 Problem lifting off

I just bought esky CP2 and fixed the "Sticky Collective" written by Boyd , still having problem lifting off, even with full power. If i am lucky the heli lift off about 1 inch with 3/4 or full power, but most of the time it presses down. Can anyone help ? Thanks so much.

The triple BB grips with the proper washers is supposed to be the Horizon Hobby fix for this problem. If you go to the bulletins on their website (link above in my last post) you will find some other issues that should be addressed. Are you using some positive throttle trim to get the heli off the ground? Try that also.

Thanks for the throttel trim advice! It was a great help. I did get into a low hover?? and i realized the nose was going to the right. So i chopped the throttle ( I should have eased it back). Results, lost tail rotor bearing. The parts arrived today and installed. I noticed in my pre-flight my main bladeswhere no longer tracking true??? Should there be any play in the gripsside to side or up or down???? or should i put on new blades or grips?? I have both in stock (proper planning thing) I also
made adjustments for tail rotor to help keep her straight.

Thank you in advance for any help. TGIF

I've lost a couple of tail bearings in panic situations (note to self: don't panic and over correct). After losing the second one I decided to glue it in with a little CA. Works great. You just need to make sure the glue only gets on the bearing case (outside of the outer cylinder).

Hello Boyd,

I just wanted to let you know you that I too have had success with your fix for the sticky - Switching the spacer and washer completely elimminated the sticky collective (pitch).

Thank You Boyd

Boyd

Thanks for your valuable input. My bcp came with the 3bb grips.
However it still was sticky in the collective. Your advice on the throttle trim helped. So a couple of low hover flights later- I bent the spindle with out breaking a main blade??.
So i took it apart and it too was assembeld with the washer and the spacer in the wrong order. I am waiting on a new Spindle(doesnot come with new grips so order both a the same time if you ever need them.) (Grips do not include the bearings either). Thanks for all you time
in advance. I am learning while waiting for parts.

dignlivn -

Can you please be more specific?

The 3BB grips use a total of 4 Step Washers and 2 Flat Washers (no "spacers") so it is difficult to understand how you found a washer and spacer assembled in the wrong order.

All BCP models equipped with 3BB grips are assembled as follows (starting from the center hub/o-ring dampner and working outward):

- Step Washer
- Bearing
- Bearing Spacer
- Bearing
- Bearing
- Step Washer
- Flat Washer
- Screw

Even if the outer Step Washer and Flat Washer were reversed in assembly order, there would be no way for this to cause "sticky collective" (the Flat Washer OD is smaller than the OD of the outer bearing race).

If a 3BB blade grip equipped model does happen to experience any detectable sticky collective response, please be assured that it is not due to the bearing/washer arrangement. It may however be related to the fit of the flybar in the center hub slot, or the fit of the rotor head on the center hub (noting also that the fit and assembly of these parts has been improved in ongoing production of BCPs to further eliminate the potential of sticky collective response). You can see more info on checking and improving the fit of these parts if neccessary here:

My mistake, I called the flat washer a spacer. You are correct.
I also thank you for the order of assembly from the O ring through the
grips. I have a slip sheet pf paper(Inserted in my manual) that said it was equipped with the3 BB. But i see only 2 ?? in the blade grip with a spacer in between them. I noticed all this because i had to replace
the Spindle (I bent it on a hard landing) or a soft crash. now if it would quit raining, I want to try it out.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

More about the grip / bearings / washers

Hey All...I'm so new to this..(four days with my BCP) but got into the
sticky head thing. Had the dealer guru look at it, and he couldnot come up with a fix. Tackling it myself... I noticed on mine at least,of the two grip washers the larger washer has an inner diameter shoulder on it, and the inside diameter of the axle hole is much larger than the axle shaft. In other words it is a pretty sloppy fit, So When I put it back together, it did not allign evenly with the bearing face.
I made the assumption that considering a correct fit, the shoulder on it, actually rested on the inside bearing race face which would keep the outside edge of the washer away from the outer race....(hope this makes descriptive sense)
anyone else notice if that larger washer with the shoulder fits snuggly on the axle ???? If not, then I think who ever assembled the beast, must have had a serious hangover and I need to talk to E-flite..
Any comments appreciated
Yours..from the bottom of the learning curve..
Thanx

More on the Blade sticky thingy...

Hi All...
Well I am new to the sport, (old to R/C) and got a Blade CP about a week ago.
I must have gotten one of the prototype version, as it seemed to have all the glitches that could possibly be made.
However, in light of fixing the spacer / grip problem, I also discovered (via the horizon site), that the main rotor shaft fly-bar slider was sticking at the bottom of its travel. It manifested itself by the bird jumping off of the ground like a grasshopper, almost the same as the grip issue. It also seemed to be the cause of the heli dropping to the ground when ever there was a t/r correction, and me having to apply an extra shot of vertical input to try and hold hover.
So it ended up with me taking the fly-bar paddle right off, (easy) and removing some material at the bottom of the slider post, as well as running some fine sandpaper in the slider tube.. Beware.... the paddles UNSCREW..they don't just pull off. and they unscrew all the way throught the centre shaft as well.
Eureeka!!!! I discovered I was not as spastic as I thought. Now with about two hours on the repaired bird, I can hold a hover inside a 4 ft square, an maintain a regular heart beat....
So for those of you frustrated newbies getting ready to sell your new bird I hope this little tid-bit helps.....
Ulterior motive is to hover sling the neighbours dog on top of the next cross country semi...
Still think this is a great site....Luck to all
Cheers
Ray
