Why the heck did Hirobo design the Freya low height skids for 5mm tubing?? I don't like it, it looks thicker than the boom. Plus I once landed hard in thick grass with 5mm tubing & it got chopped in two places where it's held!! Standard just flexes instead.

The prob is fitting standard tubing nicely in 5mm holes. I've tried drilling out 5mm tubing to fit, multiple layers of heatshrink, two cable ties to hold it in place, insulation tape and more.

Any better solutions??

Cheers!

Kev.

Two pieces of fuel tubing. One piece on each side of the lug under the skids.

antenna tubing

And, if you want to relocate it on the skids, try a plastic wire holder, and a small screw with a washer. You'll have to drill the skids to suit your new location, though.

With this method, you can use any size antenna holder you desire!

TM, I meant the lug hole is 5mm in diameter and the tubing is about 3mm & thus fits loosely. Am trying to find something that fills the gap. But hey, you might be onto something, will try squeezing through thin fuel tubing.

rtrickyjr, what plastic wire holder? I remember with the metal Eagle skids you screw ball link rod ends on but that's 5mm as well & in fact the one that chopped my tubing into 3 pieces!

Ta mates!

How about pushing fuel tubing thru the lugs then feed the antenna tube thru that

Yeah and thats with the 5mm tubing.
Taipan has the older version I guess!?
(I had that older version on my Freya, works quite ok with the fueltubing trick on that one as well IMO)

It's the white plastic 'loops' found at any auto store, used to hold wiring to firewalls, etc. It's circular, goes around the 'tube', and comes together with the bottom meeting in a flat piece with a hole through it. You simply drill and use a screw to hold it in place on the landing gear struts. It comes in 3/16, 1/4, etc., and a box of 10 or 15 is about two bucks. I use it on my helis with nyrod for the antenna tubing, with two small pieces of fuel tubing at the ends to keep the wire from getting cut.

Ah, wait a minute.

I know why I was confused. I used the fuel tubing on my EVO (before it died), with the low landing gear from Hirobo. That tube is probably 3mm while the XSpec (Freya) tube is 5mm.
