Gudday chaps (and chapesses)
Just dumb thumbed my scooby in this arvo on a botched auto. 10 auto's and then I thought just one more. Really stuffed it up as I touched the ground a little heavy after reducing collective a little too much when I felt i didn't have enough negative on. Then i bounced it about 6 foot after pitching up collective....low speed rotor...lead lag etc second touchdown was heavy and it rolled on it's side and the rotor blades just stopped. Thought about banging out on the bounce but with the low rotor speed and the blades going out of whack it may have self destructed in the air with truckloads of power on. dunno if I may have got away with it but just hung on for the second touchdown. 10 auto's before were all really good and was touching down on a spot.

Anyway to the point. Blades, boom, flybar, tail servo gearset, spindle and the ali hub. The mast is straight!!!! Unbelieveable. The mast dti's perfect but the actual hub is bent and wobbles on a brand new mainshaft. So I just put a new main shaft and hub in it. I think the hubs are pretty weak and you may need a couple in your spares inventory.

I would have never thought that would happen in such a gentle crash. After every dirt nap I think that hub will bend and may be the problem with vibes if you don't change it.

may help if you dick your evo in at some stage.

Well my last prang was flying slow backwards close to the ground. Lost it .... which cost 2 mains, a tail blade and boom.

Mainshaft had slight bend so I fitted the head without spindle and grips to a new shaft and ran it round in the high spot balancer to see if the hub was bent too. Hmmm, looks like a little runout there so I slips a new hub on the shaft and tries that for interest. What? Must have been more runout than the crashed one

Put the old head back on and rotated that again. Well it looks like a bit of runout but I'm not really sure so it has been flown like that. All seems OK except that I now get a very quick tail hunt in FFF. (401/9253)

Perhaps there is enough out of balance vibration to affect the gyro but not show as fuel frothing.

Reckon I need another new hub??

Should rotate smooth. any sort of movement in the hub will show as a vibe in the heli. If you can see the wobble it's too much. Proof is in the flying. I have heard of new stuff being out of whack so i always check any new components I put in. A new main shaft and new hub ran nice and true. it's back together now sporting a freya tail and small washers under the balls to stop them cutting into the plastic and loosening especially on the ones around the head. didn't do the push pulls as they don't have the same sort of pressure on them.
Cheers

Hey daddiesyacht,
On this weekend I got almost the same crash as you....the wind was too strong and the blades were too light and soft, so my auto were pretty hard and I boomstriked a bit....
Hub shafts and spindle were gone except the main shaft... mystery isn't it!

Garry.

yer I can't believe that the main shaft is as straight as a pin yet the hub is visibly "tweaked" .

The main shaft shows fret marks on it where the hub has worked at the bottom maybe because the bolt head and nut have loosened (due to the working between the bolt head and the nut on the soft ali hub)

I am going to mill a flat on both sides of the hub for the nut and bolt head to sit on with a washer under each one. That will hold the hub tight and stop the fretting. Maybe it may not have tweaked the hub if it were tighter......dunno.
