I'm considering buying a second hand 60 size Hirobo Tow Cobra AH-1S.

It's a few years old, but it looks in perfect condition. The paintwork on the fuselage is excellent. I think it was only flown a few times, if at all. One problem due to it's age is that the radio gear is 27MHz, obviously that will need to be changed for 35MHz before it can be used. Does that involve just a crystal swap, or will it require whole new equipment?? There's no TX.

I don't know all the details of the hardware, but it's all built up with engine, receiver and servos. I'm not sure if it's got a gyro, might be too old?? It also comes with a 12V battery, starter, and a control box with controls for a glow plug and fuel pump.

The URL for the AH-1SIII is:

http://model.hirobo.co.jp/products/scale/index-e.html

This kit for sale is only a AH-1S. I'm not sure what the mechanical differences are, but the body looks very similar.

I requested some price info from an online model shop for a brand new kit and this is the quote they gave me.

Tow Cobra AH-1S III kit £1499.99
.60 Engine (os max 61lx-h £179.99
6 channel radio £180.00
Starter kit £84.99
inc. model box(kit)
12volt power cell batt
lock glow plug
starter 6-12v pump
fuel tubing
TOTAL PRICE £1944.97

What do you think would be a fair offer for the second hand kit?? Does it sound any good?? It's not really suitable for me to learn to fly using it since one crash would be hundreds of pounds of damage. But I'm finding it really hard to resist though because for the price I think the guy will accept it's really quite a steal. I could probably get this and put all new radio gear in it for less than the price of a brand new Raptor 30.

What do you think??

cobra

hey mate!!!
if you think he is asking a fair price, then by all means get it. just be sure you have no intent on even trying to fly it till you have learned to do so on another heli set up for training........a shuttle, nexus, raptor, hawk or something in pod n' boom anyway. even though its been around for a while, you should still get parts support for it from hirobo. you are better off getting a new radio/gyro if it is old. a crystal swap will not solve the problem of it being on a different band. once all that is done, you should consider having some experienced help set it up and fly it for you so you'd at least know it flies. just dont be tempted to do it yourself.
bye!!!!!

You can't go wrong with a Snake. I have been flying mine almost every weekend for a year now with no problems at all. It is a very smooth flying Helicopter.

Pics of mine are at the bottom of my site.
