Computer Flight Simulators > Ultimate Raptor 90 for Reflex Xtr is available

Hi guys,

I realise that you all have been waiting very long. Sorry for the delay, but in the mean time me and my wife had a baby, and believe it or not, Vincent and his wife had two babies in the mean time :-) So thank our wifes for keeping up with us during that time while we were modeling this ultimate Raptor 90 for hours and hours until late in the night!

But hey, it is worth it or not:

It compares very well to the real one:

Ok ok ok, I shall stop teasing you.

Did I already tell you that this model is made using a special version of RMK which Stefan Kunde made available to us for this project? Thanks Stefan!

This is my web page: The Raptor 90 Page!

I guess you will find your way :-)

Hint, if I were you I would start looking at the simulators page.

Have lots of fun you all, if you appreciate our work, then don't forget the donation button on my pages;-)

Vincent Charbonneau & John Vugts.

Best regards,

John

Thanks for the compliments, we hope you enjoy it.

You have to send the money via Paypal to my e-mail address which consists of: "john.vugts" and then add: "@tiscali.nl".

The button should work though.

It is even possible to donate without having a Paypal account or without getting a Paypal account. You can use your credit card directly if you want to.

Of course you also use your Paypal account if you have one.

Best regards,

John

What a perfectly mapped raptor 90. Great job, I take my hate of to you guys.

Is there anything else that needs to be done in the parameters of the model, as I must have done something wrong. The model is very lively around centre stick but bogs down real bad anything above or below centre stick?

Jmehok,

Try to download from a different PC. Your Firewall is probably the problem. I only accept download requests from computers providing a valid domain name etc, for my logging.

Your computer provides an empty domain.

@Jambo:
No parameters have to be changed if all is well.
I use the following channel setup:
1: Aileron
2: Elevator
3:
4: Pitch, and Throttle
5: Autorotation
6: Gyro gain
7:
8: Tail rotor

Make sure that: "RPM controlling (governor)" is checked (press F5)
Make sure that: "Transmitter mixing pitch -> throttle" is NOT checked (press F5).

That should do it.

Best regards,

John

thanks, I'n not sure why, buy I have found the problem, If i create a new directory under heli called 'ultimate raptor' and copy the files into that, all is OK, for some reason I must have something in my 'thunder tiger' dir that it doesn't like.

Now that it is running it is the best model I have downloaded to date. Doesn't need any modification

Great model! Thanks for the hard work. I think I have a new favorite heli to fly in relfex now.

I do have to crank to dual rates down to get it to fly more like mine. If your R90 really flies like that, thats insane!

Solved Blank page on download

Hi all,

For those who had problems downloading it (the firewall issue), I changed some scripting, you should be able to download it now.

Let me know if it works for you now.

P.S. Note that you may have a firewall in your modem or router that is the pain :-) Anyway, those problems should be gone now.

Best regards,

John

That is a NICE Rappy!!!! Donation will be on it's way this weekend!

However, I have a question. What's the best way to slow the roll rate down? My Rappy with TDG blades, 90mm V-Blade paddles and about 6 degrees of cyclic pitch does not roll as fast as this one. Other than that, it flies VERY similar!

I have a small problem with my hosting provider. At this point you can not download the Raptor, I hope it will be fixed soon, sorry.

It will come back, if this hosting provider can not fix it soon, then I will move to a different one.

@helodad, no we don't do this for a living :-)

@Alanr8, that depends, I of course modeled the right amount of inertia in the model, the right amount of inertia in the blades etc. Adapting this to your model is difficult to explain, and I would need to fly your model to get it correct.

If you have a similar setup as mine however, but only have a decreased cyclics, then you can just reduce the cyclics in the simulator (or simply reduce the ATV on your transmitter). That way you will get close to your machine.

Best regards,

John

Is there somebody who can temporarily provide me some hosting space for the Raptor (approx 5MB) with php scripting and proper bandwidth?

I just need an account where I can upload the files, and run a PHP script.

Thanks.

Hello John
I wonder if someone could try the following? flip the model nose up about 5-10deg past vertical (slightly on it's back like in a pie dish) and hold in full aileron only. This model (like all XTR models) just seems to whizz around in a perfect pie dish with no other control inputs.

My own Rap 90 is VERY similar in setup except I run about 1700 HS and if I tried this it would hit the deck in seconds. I've not tried 1850HS and it needs mending right now so can't for a week or so.

IF I increase the model weight to 7kg it seems to behave more like mine does, or am I being too simplistic here?

Edit
just found this thread
http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t178196p1/
will try 1850 once it's mended.

Hi
I will give it a go on the sim 2night, I think it flys fairl relisticly, The auto feal is very good . I have always thought that the physics of XTR were never that good. I know that XTR apears to hold a pie dish a little easyer and keeps the momentum of the cuircle alot easyer than in real life.

Also nife edge tick tocks (horizontal) and 4 point tick tocks are redicouly over powered in reflex, almost as if all models are too bouncey.

I dont think with XTR you will ever get a perfectly balanced model. If you change a par to make a better feal in a funnel, Some other Manover will suffer or become worse. Just a case of getting a sencible balance i think

Thanks for that, should have thought about it myself!

Now I do think about it, i've just DECREASED the roll rate on my proper 90 because I had about 7.5 degrees cyclic pitch on the Quick UK head. All the links were stock length and the servo wheels as per the book. It must be something to do with the head, slightly different geometry to the stock pladtic one.

I'll give it a go and let you know.

Hi John, great job on the rendering, she almost look real.

There was one thing I couldn't help but notice is that this heli is so much bigger than the other helis in XTR, is a 90 that much bigger or is it just the way the pictures came out?

Thanks for the comments on my modeling and mapping job. Your right, the heli is a bit bigger in scale compare to the scale of the other heli in xtr. We find that it looks better that way in relationship with the scale of the background images, but this is personnal, the scale can be easily change as the users preference. Maybe it can be change in the John parameters. if not, you will have to live with that size.

Thanks again

One problem I found is that if the heli gets to close to me my computer crashes. Doesn't do it on any other model. When I say close, as in hitting me nearly, something I do try to avoid but if you want to look at all the detail you have to get pretty close to it

Yeh iv had that 2 times now. Its not when you hit your self but get realy close. And most the time its ok, Both times it happened to me the heli was at a Certain angle to me. Its also not as if the System locks up its more like Reflex its self, I can still hear my music playing in the background and MSN Chat running as if the Pc is running,

LOL, Only a small prise to Pay for a Raptor 90

Reesy
I cant get my Reflex to do the same as what you say. If i hold in left it just spins around almost on the spot and loses altatude *I lose control) very fast. I Use Pitch > throttel mixing in Reflex and then set up my TX as i would for a real model, this seems to work best

hi,

This is that kind of bug we have along all the project. Only add one more cylinder on the heli and it makes crash XTR. but the current model not supposed have any bugs. I tried many times this morning flying it really close to me, really slowly until it crash to myself, but there is no bugs I see, when it get really close and came to me (hit), then the simulation reset itself like many other heli in xtr.

Did you get the latest version of XTR? (update), maybe it can solve this. it can be directly downloaded from this link:

http://www.modelrec.com/products/rc...date_5010us.exe

please let us know about it.

Thanks

If the computer crashes, it's a problem with the graphics driver or hardware. If just Reflex crashes, it's a problem with Reflex (triggered by cadwarrior's model). In the latter case there may be a distant chance for a cure. In the first case, well - you'll have to throw out half your components on your quest to remedy this. Not funny .

Yeah I got the update and all the latest hardware patches. My system is a P4 3G, 1GB memory with a geforce 5600 256MB. It's not a bad little system and like I said, it's just this one model that does it but I'm not complaining really, I just don't fly so close to myself and it's fine

Hi,

I have tried to fly really close to me from all directions, but it does not crash. All that happens is that finally my head gets chopped of :-)

I can not reproduce this error., so for those who experience this small problem, I suggest to not fly any closer then you would do in real life :-)

i'm having a bit of a problem with it after the heli crashes...

when the sim goes to restart, it restarts and the heli has crash damage and keeps resetting itself

any ideas?

Other then that, once I figure out why in my 100%-50%-0% flight mode isn't giving me negative pitch, it flies great

Don't give it full negative pitch. Otherwise when it restarts at full throttle you'll slam it into the ground.

Start with the collective stick in the middle (zero degrees).

If you have it fully down, then you are pushing the heli down with -10.5 degrees on 710mm blades spinning at 1850 RPM. This is too much for it to handle

So start it with the throttle stick in mid position.

I've managed to figure out why my computer keeps crashing when I use your model. It's a combination of geforce 5600, your model, multi monitor support and nvidia drivers 71.89. Everything works fine if I either use the older drivers or disable my second monitor. If I put my Ti4600 back in then nothing crashes and I can use the second display.

NIce to get to the bottom of it

John and Vincent,

I'm really impressed with the model! It's handles beautifully, looks and sounds fantastic! I dropped a donation a few days back and really hope you guys keep the development ball rolling. I'd be happy to drop another donation for a couple new skins as well as help apply a 90 stock.par. Great work!!

this model flies incredible...on the sim... and if it's anything like it is in real life.. wow !

I'm a novice basically, but I've been working with your heli and it's super crisp, super responsive and experimenting with the full range of pitch and speedy cyclic has been a blast... my objective, despite all my wild moves and experimentation has been to bring it back to virtual earth without crashing.. and I've done that several times

I've been using it to practive nose-in hovering, inverted flying, rolls, loops, etc...

I love it

Now just working on firm, precise control is what'll make the virtual flying less erractic and more refined.

I'm anxious to get back to nose-in hovering on my Hawk Sport.. practice practice

Hi,

We don't know when or if we are going to release the SE, see: http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t179239p1/

It will at least take some weeks.

Best regards,

John

I downloaded the file. Looks awesome! I am really impressed!

How close to the actual real Raptor 90 does it fly?

Seems like a rocket to me...

The original Raptor 90 does not fly like this :-)

This model is modelled according to the behaviour of my own modified model. My own contest machines fly like this. On my web page you can find exactly what I did to make the heli as agile as the Reflex Xtr Model.

John

Please just use the download link!

There was a brief hickup in the server, the Raptor is available again. So please download it directly from my web site.

Best regards,

John

Sent donation and downloaded the 90. For some reason it causes my machine to freeze up. ATI all in wonder card 512 mb memory. Frame rate very slow at 50 to 70 fps. All other models work well

So what does it doe now :-)
Does it freeze up, or is it "slow" like 50 to 70 FPS?

If it crashes, then you have a problem with your graphics card or drivers in your machine. This model just has a bit more faces, bitmaps etc, but this is no problem for any video card. The number is still very low with reference to e.g. some 3D shooter game :-)

So I suggest you try to find the latest stable drivers for your video card, and then retry. You are are the first one that I know of who seems to have trouble with the model.

Good luck, and let me know if you can get it fixed.

Best regards,

John

freeze up

Its a problem with video card. Dropped screen resolution in reflex and freezing no longer a issue. Tried updated drivers no help.
