My Posts This: Topic Forum | Here is the list of all upgrades that I collected from Ralphw. I just copy and paste his to this and add the part number for you, hope thid will help!
Jr Voyager E
1. Motor, Battery, ESC combo - Hacker C40-8L, LiPO 3s (3s3p or 3s4p your choice. I use a 4p for longer flight times but a 3p will be lighter for 3D performance), Castle Creations Phoenix 45 ESC. Pinion will depend on your battery and motor, but with the setup listed, a 17t should work well.
Long boom conversion - 1 JR Venture 30 tailboom (PART#JRP983001) cut down to 22 1/8" and 1 ECO 16 tail belt (PART#67920). Blades can be up to 475mm (MS makes a set of 470's that will fit nicely).
If you haven't already done so, for all out 3D, get a set of carbon frames and a set of good mini servos (I use the Hitec HS 85's for the swash and an HS 81 on the tail).
2. Start with the motor. A Mega 22/30/3 has a KV of approx. 1270, which is about 1/3 of the needed KV. With the multi stage gearing of the VE you need a KV of at least 3500. The most recommended engine/esc combo for the VE is the Hacker C40-8L and the CC45 ESC. There are other motors that will work, but that combo really shines with a 16t or 17t pinion and a 3s (3p or 4p) Lipo battery.
If you're not going to go with Lipos then you'll want a 10 cell GP 3300 NiMH pack which should get you 10-12 minutes of flight time. The LiPO's will give you a flight time of approx 15-25 minutes depending on the amperage of the pack (I get 25 min on a 3s4p 8200mah if I don't push the heli really hard).
As for other mods, there are several good ones. The most important things to do to the VE (other than the brushless motor) are lighten it up and tighten up the head. The manual says standard servos are OK and they will fit the stock frame but they are WAY too heavy. A set of Hitec HS 85's on the swash and an HS 81 for the tail are much lighter and provide plenty of power and speed. The downside is they are too small for the frame unless you create a set of adapters. The other option (and a good one) is to get a set of carbon frames. Most (except the KSJ's I believe) are presided for the Hitec's.
For the head there are a bunch of simple mods that can be done which will greatly improve the stock head. Most of the mods are listed in a couple of recent issues of MHT, probably 3-4 issues back, in a couple of articles by Ron Osinski (online "GMRO". His stuff is really useful and alot can be done without major upgrades, just some time and effort. You can also bolt on a Quick 15 head and swash (if you can find one) which is a very big improvement to the stock top end.
The one other mod I did that had a huge effect on the characteristics of the VE was to extend the tail boom (cut down a Venture boom (PART#JRP983001) and use an ECO 16 (PART#67920) belt) and go to 470mm blades. This really reduces the blade loading and makes the VE much more lively and enjoyable to fly. |
