After my first attempts in inverted hovering and rolls I noticed a lot of oil on my gyro sensor (gy502). I think, maybe it s better to put it to the front on the servo tray? Now it is on a special gyro mount. I ask just because I read something in the gyro manual, what the sensor should be at least 10 cm from the engine.

You can put it anywhere you want as long as the platform is sturdy and not prone to vibration.

You can see how I mounted an old Vision 2000 gyro at the front of my Sky Dragon

I've since replaced this with a GY502 and its worked great for many years. The radio tray on this heli is very sturdy tho.

The oil will not hurt it.

Oil won't harm the sensor, but is likely to soften the pad adhesive

Yeah, I know, but I just don't like seeing it there. I have a lot of space on the servo tray, so why not...

It is just my preference since my hard crashes tend to do more damage to the front and the electronics there. I have to bullet proof my receiver and a sensor there is just more electronics to break. But the front does receive less vibrations so that is a very good thing.

Yeah, that is a reason. I had my gyro almost come off in flight and the tail started to act like crazy. I landed it somehow, but it was realy scary. And the vibration is less, as you told.

Up front works just as well or better than in the back, and it's one less wire to run past the main gear area. I ran many gyros in the back of my Xcell for years, and the oil does no harm, except to the gyro tape. The JR tape seems to hold up the best as the stock Futaba stuff eventually splits.
