HIROBO Turbulence - SDX - Freya - Sceadu > EVO Tank Stopper Probs?

Today I was out flying my trusty EVO and started it - everything good, went out and hovered a bit, switched to idle up did a test climbout and everything checked out, so I set it down and did a tail stand launch, well as the heli was going inverted the engine started to rev up and down wildly!! Bad time for engine probs!

Anyway, I flew the heck out of this bird last night with no probs, and now any time I go above 3/4 stick the engine just starts oscillating very very badly - it goes soooo lean it's gonna cut then comes back and goes lean again.

So I landed and checked it out - I found a hole in a fuel line that I replaced and flushed the carb with no success - same thing.

So after much fiddling I found that the tank stopper had pretty much disintegrated - or at least the bottom part of it under the lip of the tank was totally ripped. So, I'm pretty sure that this was the prob, but what would cause it to just pop like that - from fine to pieces?? Has anyone out there experienced this before with the stoppers? Did I over tighten??? The heli's probably got 8 or 9 gallons through it, maybe more.

????

Good Catch,

The only problems I've had was the fuel line starting to fall apart. Never had the problem you discribe with the stopper. The only issues I had concerning the stopper was it splitting. I usually change the stopper and fuel line every couple of months.

I found mine to be apart when I took out the stock fuel pick up line for some hayes. Just replace it when needed and do not over tighten the screw that holds the stopper in place.

Mine fell apart too. Probably over-tightened it when I built the Evo.

Stock clunk tubing isnt 'good'
Had a tank stopper go bad on me also, guess I overtightened it slightly, Ricks should have new ones.

Been there, done that and now own the T-Shirt. From what I can tell, you can't tighten that stopper down too much or you increase the chances of it cracking.

Stock tubing?? Hah! I haven't used that stuff since my 1st Rappy 30 V1.

3 ft off the deck going inverted when the engine decides to get funky - not fun!!!

I found the stopper prob as I was taking out the clunk line to inspect, because I was starting to suspect the clunk line was collapsing - it wasn't - it was fine!

I ordered a bunch of the stoppers from Ricks. Thanks everyone!

Do I get the T-shirt now?

The hayes stuff is what most people use on header tanks, but fail to notice the main tank line. Good stuff and one package is enough for a good number of replacements.

Hi,

The hayes line works good in the duration department, but it tend to be loose in the fitting when exposed to fuel. It also expand somewhat. I used it and didn't like it much.

Now, I'm using Aerotrend small fuel line. It's flexible and strong.
