The Actro motors are pretty awesome in this application... What motor would you prefer to use???

Minicopter has motor mounts for some different brands of motors, but as I said before, I don't think you will find a better combonation than the Actro motors & esc's...

3D flying as done in XFC style and night flying to music is generally no more than 4 minutes, so whats your point... Sounds like 4 minutes ought to be enough... Also you don't state what the model you saw was running... There are many things that affect the duration and I am sure I can get 6 6.5 minutes with the right setup... I hope to prove that soon...

The Joker is a work of art, and flies like one as well...

twguns There is no question that the joker is a work of art!!! The price of the kit is in the ball park as well as the parts. Even if other motors can be bolted up, your still stuck with some low gear ratios. Like Gary Wright I believe in using high Kv motors. The current crop of electric heli's don't allow you to do that. The logo 10 comes close, allowing a 15 to 1 ratio. I do fly some nitro choppers but all of my planes are elec. Have been for the past 15 years. I find if I want duration, going for a torque motor works best but if you want eye ball performance a high Rpm motor works best with the proper ratio of course. Now this rule is not set in stone, there are exceptions. If you have been following Gary's posts on E zone he makes a comment about the style of flying over there verses over here. That really does explain the current designs. I will say this though, the joker may still end up in my stables!!!!! Almost forgot, Yes the actro motor is an outstanding motor but 4 min just isn't long enough for me.

Couldn't agree more with you.
The absolute minimum I would accept is 7 minutes on hard 3D.

Mike, I know you're a Vario dealer and all, and I'm sure the Silence is a well built heli. I've got a couple of Vario Gassers and a Joker. Based on what you've said you'll end up spending a bunch more for the Silence than than a Joker. I'll admit Vario's stuff is high quality, but the Joker is a good couple notches better IMO.

At $1250 (kit, motor, ESC and blades) Joker is a much better deal. No upgrades needed.

I find the Joker flies just as long as any other electric heli pretty much. It's really top of the line quality -- everything is either CF or metal and the maching is high precision. The only weakness is tail pitch mechanism. Pretty flimsy considering the rest. I just replaced it with a spare Vario part I had :-)....

oops I need to do better math..............

$981.18 (kit, motor, ESC and asymm. blades)
$196.98 in upgrades for the 1005/50 and 49/15
1178.16 for the VARIO Silence that's $71.84 less than the Joker.
