Greetings one and sundry
Just a thought. The TP version of the eRaptor50 is a standardised package now. Just a few variations and choices to suit budget and personal preferance.
I would like to see some setups that people are using, no doubt others will want to see this as well.
Mine is:

Raptor50 V2 (push/pull elev, rear sevo mount, metal washout nut)
V2 box
1515-2Y Neu motor
Jazz 55-10-32 ESC
UBEC
GY601+9251
Futaba 9252x3
JR PCM reciever
2 x 10s2p TP's
schulze 6-330
600mm zigsaw carbon blades (std woodies on till its over testing)

weight TBA (in final stage of assembly)
flight time TBA
Normal 30 # # 65 # # 100
0 # 77 77 77 77 77
Idle 1 0 # # 50 # # 100
95 # # 80 # # 95
Idle 2 0 # # 50 # # 100
100 # # 85 # # 100
(haven't flown it yet, so these curves are initial guesses)

I look forward to sharing more with you all.

I have:
Raptor 30V1 with 50 tailboom
Box V1
Hacker C50-12XL
Kontronik Beat 50-8-30
UBEC
Futaba GY401+9253
Tp 8s3p Gen2
CCPM kit
Mavrik carbon 600

Weight: 8lbs 1oz

Pretty good power, but haven't had much time to fly it. Now that I have a Jazz ESC I think I want to try 10s when there are more daylight to fly in summer months. For some reason my free time gets shorter and shorter as I get older.

Update on my eRaptor from above.

I added another set of 3s 2000mah batteries (total of six) for longer flight time.
Total weight of heli RTF is 10.5 lbs. The weight of the scale fuse was simulated by a phonebook taped to the landing gear.
Flight time was a solid 12 minutes of basic cruise with several climpouts. After 13 minutes the power reduction was felt. Total mah used was ~5000 with voltage of 10.2v per battery ten minutes after flight.
ESC temp was luke warm, batteries were barely warm and motor was 120F at the hottest point. Throttle curve was 95% accross with the build in ESC governor regulating headspeed.
Power was adequate for a scale machine but would not be enough for 3d. A 4S or 5S lipo setup would bring this setup to life with a higher headspeed and torque. I used these batteries because I also use them in my glider, 3d Foamy and scale warbird.
I'm installing the mechs into the fuse now and will test fly later this week.

Thanks for the Jazz ESC Gary. Got it yesterday, and installed it and flew the maiden flight an hour ago.
I am using the box in an eRaptor with a 1515-2Y and 10s2p's on a JR9303 radio.
I put on a set of Zigsaw carbons for the full throttle tests. I wasn't real keen on getting too close to the blades at full speed, but it was 2150ish. THe sound is just awsome.
I then dialled it down to 1700rpm so I can use the stock woodies while I get used to the new heli. The normal thottle curve to get 1700rpm is 41%. I was expecting about 79% ie 100x1700/2150.
This makes me think that full throttle is coming in on the TX stick at about mid stick!
What does this mean? Do I need to adjust the Throttle channel end points?
I am quite happy that the ESC at 1700rpm is quite happy, no overheating, but the figure to get it is weird.

Here's my set up.
Raptor 50 SE
Neumotor 1515 2y
Schulze Future ESC
10s2p 4000mAh
Ubec
600mm SAB blades.
Watts up.

Runs for 8 mins of solid 3D. About 11 mins non aerobatic flight.
Both measured to 75-80% discharge.

Pulls plus and minus 12 degrees at 2000rpm and doesn't load up even at full collective and lots of cyclic.

Originally had Kontronic ESC but had to changed due to severe radio interference.

Very Happy

Can a Schulze 32.55k handle that?
Just interested to know how much Amps does it pulls at 12 degree pitch? Thanks.

Hi Brancoli,
Watts Up records peak power of about 1850watts after a flight with full power climbouts. At 37 volts, thats 50amps. Hovering takes about 700W. Thats about 19amps.

The longest I can use full power for is about 5-6 seconds as it's getting too high to see after that. From ground level, a 5 second burst of full power gives enough height for a 23second auto. Monster portions of power

Two strokes are just so 20th century.

I'm looking for some help here and it sounds like you guys have all the answers. I have a Raptor 30 that I'm looking to convert and I have no idea where to begin. I know nothing about what batteries, speed controller or motor to use. I have a T Rex and love it but I want to go bigger !!! So I have a Raptor 30 just sitting around screaming to be flown and figured it would make a good e conversion. I don't even know where to begin on where to set my curves up once I get the conversion gear.

All sugestions would be helpfull.

If it doesn't fit force it.....If it breaks then it needed to be replaced anyway !!!

I forgot to mention I'd like to keep the total setup price to around $500.00 and flight times around 10 to 12 min. I have a good Li Po charger so that is one less item I need to complete the task.

Thanks again for every response.

Hi tean,
thanks for the input!
I just have an eshuttle, similar 600 blade with actro32-3, 32-40k and 10s Tanic 4300mAh.
Just want to see my schulze 32-40k can handle 600mm blade running at 12 degree pitch.
Base on your post I will say it is marginal.
But I am just a gentle flyer so it may be ok for me.
Thanks.

Hi Rogue

Have a look at www.tppacks.com
All you need to know about about converting a raptor to electric.

Hi Brancoli
I think your controller (32-40) may be, as you say, marginal. I think I'd invest in a Watts Up or simillar meter for peice of mind.

Schulze 32.40k shutdown on me 1 minute into flight. The motor/battery wasn't even warm. It just can't handle the Raptor's current draw. I was running 8s3p with Hacker C50-13XL on a boxed setup from tppacks. When you pull 12 degrees you are not a gentle flyer. You might get by if you run 10s2p with milder motor, but why risk such an expensive setup on a marginal ESC? 该花的钱还是要花的.

You will need a Schulze 32.55K or Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32.

another Raptor conversion

Here's mine:

Raptor 30 V1, the very oldest prototype from ThunderTiger, but with long tail boom and belt, using 600mm Zigsaw GP4 blades.
motor: Hacker B50-23XL(685 rpm/V), 9.55:1 reduction (9T/86T)
controller: Jazz 55-10-32, set to governor mode
battery: TP4000 3S2P x3, that is 9S2P 4000mAH
electric logger: home made with accelorometer
total airborne weight: 3.9KG

results:
peak power: 1450W
hovering power: around 700W
flight time: 15+ minute hovering
peak current: 42A
voltage: around 35V
rotor speed: ? unknown, going to find out next time
use-able mAH: 3600mAH before feeling soft
peak vertical G logged: 11.3G with one loop

thoughts? scaring! I am not very comfortable with eletric power response, I prefer gas engine...

Heat issues?

Tean,

I have the EXACT same setup as you and I'm getting some pretty high motor temps after only about 2-3 min. of FFF... motor is up around 180F. ESC heat sink is very hot ,and the gear box is also getting really hot... almost as hot as the motor. The DIL on the Schultze are set for heli, normal throttle (not const), soft timing, and 9kHz freq.

I'm worried because the 10s2p pack is right beneath all this heat and is touching that gearbox. What kind of temps are you seeing on yours? I'm going to try the gov mode today and see if that helps.

Hi John,
After a good 8 min blast of full on maniac flying, my motor is bordering on hot. The rear motor bearing gets sore to touch but the motor case is only warm. The gears in the box are warm. I've never checked the case but I'm not aware of it getting hot. My speed controller is on top of the motor and is about the same temp as the motor case.
It sounds like there is a problem with yours.
I've never tried mine on non-governer mode but I can't see why that would make it overheat. I,ve tried soft and hard timing, but couldn't tell any difference.

You say the gearbox is hot. Are the gears hotter than the case? If the mesh is too tight, that could cause lots of drag and heat.
Have you got a Watts Up? We can compare current readings if you have.

Andy
