When I'm not flying, I'm studying computer animation (Maya) at college. Been itching to throw something together & here it is.

Pardon the quality, it's in preview mode. Later on when I have time, will model something more recognizable & render it properly. Also planning to assemble a kit in 3D.

My piroflip, this is how I'm doing them at the moment in mode 1. 3sec per flip, 2 piros per flip. Quite slow, but very hard to go any faster. Remember the timing is not exact, you actually have to stay 'ahead' of the heli as it lags behind. But this shows you how piroflips work. It is also a good idea to visualise the swashplate being tilted 'forward' the whole time.

http://runryder.com/helicopter/gall...My_piroflip.zip (372k)

If using Windows Media Player, hit Ctrl+T to repeat & Ctrl+Shift+S to slow down.

Alan's piroflip. Tried to match his speed. 2.5sec/flip, 4piro/flip.
http://runryder.com/helicopter/gall..._s_piroflip.zip (240k)

And now for the ultimate, pure CHAOS!!! As defined by Curtis, it is continuous piroflips slowly yawed about the vertical axis. See for yourself below. So hard, Curtis hasn't been able to do many.

http://runryder.com/helicopter/gall...29/My_chaos.zip (1.9Mb) Same speed as Alan's above. 24sec to complete one revolution. The arrow at the bottom indicates the flipping direction.

I'd like to do more maneuvers, even whole ultimate flights.

Comments welcomed.

Cheers,

Kev.

Looks like you’re using right rudder. I think for efficiency you should use left rudder (at least for clockwise rotating blades)

I agree about left rudder but there are plenty of people using right with no problems. With the power of a 50 size or a 90 it really doesn't matter as long as your not banging the collective.

hi Kev,

like the animations.

Have you animated the sticks separately from the heli or have you set up some form of
morph target so that when you animate the sticks the heli moves?

This is effectively what i plan to do with a heli i have almost completely modelled

www.3-daz.com

I would also love to have it set up so that all levers and servos move with stick inputs.

Hi
Im afraid i dont agree with the Mode 1 Stick animation, You have the right stick (Pitch/Aileron) Moveing in a figure of 8 Movement, Iv always had a circular motion just like on Mode 2! Maybe iv been doing it wrong all this time!

I may be wrong! Though i would let you know, would be intresting to hear what other mode 1 flyers say!

Hi cjgraigj,

in mode 1 a circular motion of the right stick occurs only when you doing 1 flip per piro. When doing more piros per flip the motion is no more circular, the animation is correct imho.

Best regards,
Stone

Taipan, I think many will find the stick movements in mode 1 and 2 a good training guide. I have a request : Could you kindly include the mode 1 stick movements for Alan's piroflip and the chaos, if it is not asking too much ? Thanks for the great job done !

Ta for the comments!

I use right rudder as learnt off vids of Curtis' piroflips.

Daz, your site is wicked. I animated the sticks separately. Will morph target another time. However am thinking of targeting the sticks instead so that whatever I do to the heli it will show up on the sticks. Read below for what I mean. Yeah, will need fixing up or might appear weird.

cjcraigj, sometimes I get a circular motion as well when doing really slow piroflips. Btw, I watched ya vid. Sweet flying mate. We need to show the dark side how its done in mode 1. Knife edge tic tocs are so easy huh? Just stir the right stick.

rajul, I didn't include the M1 sticks for Alan's piroflip as it'll be bloody fast. I've tried this & it's very messy, high speed piroflips won't be very smooth with M1 unless you use elevator or aileron only. But the flip rate will suffer as a result.

As for sticks in Chaos, you would barely notice the inputs required to yaw the piroflips. Unless this was exaggerated for learning purposes. Also there is how accurate the maneuver can be. At the top would be inputting every step. At the bottom, say, 8 piroflips per revolution with an extra 45 degs of piro inbetween each while upright. Just like a PiroGlobe.

When I connect the heli to the sticks, hopefully this'll show how it's done.

Ta again mates.

Kev.

ok

ok once again someone leaves something to the amgination. We are learning we dont need this bs.http://www.littlerotors.com/flyingl.../piroflips.aspx
"I’m not going to tell you what cyclic inputs you need because if you have to be told, then you’re not ready for this maneuver."

Ok so a basic prio flip with one piro per flip. I need to use elevator and aileron? obviously. I cant put the remote down until i learn this
