Hi,

I got my Hornet X 3D last week. Had about 10 flights this weekend with it, and it really is a good 3D performer ot of the box.

My setup:
Hornet X 3D
MS Carbon tail baldes
Twister X Motor + MS Controller
3x MS15 servos for swash
MS10 servo for tail
GY 401

Nice 1 dennis - you got further than me with your build and you got better pics done too, good man

I have a few Q's for you though....

1. did your Twister fit without any mods - it looks like I will have to remove a bit of the landing gear as I cant get it in - what pinion do you use?

2. does your main gear slide up and down on the autorotation sleve?

thats as far as I have got, all help appreciated

Dennis,
THANKS A LOT!!!!! THIS is REALLY SWEET!

You mind posting pics of the assembled frame? I was told the frame is more rigid this time..... This is reallly neat.... seems like the conical gear is metal? and the tailboom mounting region on the main chasis is now lengthened?

I'm using the stock pinion of the twister motor. I actually had to remove a bit (1mm) of the landing gear and the frame.

The conical gear is NOT metal. This is a mod I've made.

Make sure there is very little play btw the conical gear and the main gear. This way the main gear will not slide up and down and it will also maximize the lifetime of the conical gear.

Nice1 Dennis

Thanks for the reply - sounds like you have similar problems to me

I suppose its only the gear that slides up and down on the sleve - not the shaft that moves up and down so it is really the conical gear that keeps the main gear down

thanks again for the clarification - any other building tips you have please share

im looking forward to flying it soon

Cheers

Some tips:

Pay attentation to the details, make sure the mechanics is running freely and without slop.

You might use WD40 oil to minimize friction in the mechanics.

Make sure the head damping is as hard as possible. This might help:
http://mscomposit.com/Tips_and_Tric...and_tricks.html

Make sure there is absolutley no vibration. Vibrations will strongly influence the gyro. Start with the tail and main blades detached and let the motor run up. If there are vibrations they are probaply caused by the paddles. Use tape to correct the vibrations. Then mount the tail blades and again use tape to correct all vibrations. Finally, mount the main blades and adjust the tracking and reduce all vibrations withs tape. You should end up with almost no vibrations. This is very important, to make it fly well.

Pay attention to the TS setup. In 0 pitch all servos should be in neutral position. Use max -11/11 degree pitch.

Set you controller to 100% power, no gas curve.

Use the heavier paddles, unless you want to flip it in your living room The stock setup is very good for tight indoor 3D. If you prefer fast forward flying outdoors with loops and rolls you could even add some additional weights to the flybar.

Don't mount the tail fin if you want to do very fast backwards and sidewards flying.

have you tried pointing babelfish at it

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

I tell it to look at the Microheli.net forum and set it to german/english and off you go

its a bit slower than usual but helps a lot

how does google do it?

Just tried the 100-100-100 throttle curve on my H2 with Twister and Ph10, first time using the CA'd O rings in the head too - its quick on the sticks ! and accurate ! so far i like it, and it has freed my RD8000's throttle compensation mixes (no point in that if you run 100% across the curve) and now i can use these 2 mixes to fine tune the eCCPM !

I like it !!

I'm running 130% power curve, no gov. This gives maximum headspeed and makes the tail work better due to smaller torque changes.

You can also try to warp some tape (2 layers) around the central part inside the rotor head and then glue the O rings. This will make the damping even harder.

Dennis I have just finished building my Hornet X and have a couple of things to ask you after looking at your pictures.

On you tail the plastic pitch cradle with the two bits of plastic bent at 90 degrees looks different to mine and it as area i fell is not too good.

On mine you push the two bent up pieces over a little plastic pin moulded on the blade holders and this is an area of much friction. On yours it looks as though you have metal pins going through here. Is this standard on your kit or have you modified it.

Also many people seem to suggest the Twister motor will not fit in without modifying the frames. Mine fitted straight in although there are TWO pairs of threaded holes in the top of the twister and if you have it one way they are too far apart the other way are closer together and fit perfectly. I suspect those that have been having to modfiy the frame have not tried turnig the motor 90 degrees.

Different ESC's "see" full power at different settings. For example, the CC PH-10 goes to full throttle in fixed throttle mode at around 75% on my xmitter. In auto-calibrating mode, I have no idea where full throttle is.

With the phoenix 10, if the red light is on, then you are at full power.
