Yeah baby! Heli's going to be here this week! Can't wait!

I'll do a build thread kind of like this one when I get the 3DMP.

At last I had 2 good flights! Today the weather is beautiful and I managed to drain two packs. I changed the Shadow 1 receiver to a Berg 6 and with the silicone tubes in areas of the tail the heli was smooth as butter with no glitches whatsoever!

I am not using any external BECs but the internal one of the Jazz. It seemed to handle the load of the 4 digital servos + gyro just fine. I didn't do any hard 3D (can't yet , also this was one of my first flights with the bird without any problems) but did really fast banked turns (man, this thing turns on a dime full speed!) and max speed flight with many control inputs to all servos.

The heli is very precise and stable, you get a feel for it very quickly. I really like this machine! I think the T-rex is going to collect dust now for a while...

The TP 3S2P 4200mAh batts gave a flight time of 8-10 minutes of sportman style flying on max throttle. Motor was 140º-145º and battery was around the same temp (forgot to measure HS). The Lehner has great power with good punch out. Plenty of power for whatever I want to do with it. It's not a total rocket in climbouts but there is no straining at all. It will be a better comparison when I get a chance to solder the motor for 6S. Also next time I'll dial in more pitch (now it was 10º) to see how the motor copes with that, the Lehner looks like it has the reserves to pull more.

So far I am very happy with this purchase!

Tail shaft coupling

Anyone having problems with the tail shaft not coupling right please read:

http://runryder.com/helicopter/p1177907/

and don't forget those small black rubber pads which go into the couplings.

For calculating gear ratios

As the heli has a two stage gear box you can count the main gear as having 281.25 teeth for easier calculations. (Thanks Custom PC)

Where to find one

I know that you found yours at RCHOVER, but they seem to be sold out where to find one of these kits?

Actually it is a very good match. Someone here on the forum has a 15 series on their Eolo and report that it is a little underpowered. The 1930 works beautifully! Initially I was getting around 140-145ºF on the motor and battery, but it seems the system has broken in as I only get temps of 110-120ºF now, which is great!

The heli is not too heavy at all with just 3S2P batteries.

i am sure it is a nice combo and i am happy of that but you are not using full motor power cause it is not possible with that battery ( they should handle max 600 W vs 1100 W of the motor), there is no difference between a 19 or 15 with that batteries.

I was thinking the same thing...is the Lehner 1930/6 just plain overkill on a 3s2p Eolo? And would the 15 be enough?

I have a 1530 (running on 6S) and it is too small, even on 5S it overheats, I have 2 heatsinks, a fan and cooling holes

also 1530 is too big for 6s1p, right one is 1520 for those batteries (570W).
probably at same power 1930 has bit more torque.
you and dnam are using same power of 600 watt cause 6s1p can't deliver more, anyway not bad power 0,5W/g.

dnam, you should try 3s3p (850 W) and 3s4p (1150W right for 1930) and if you see no difference it means you already have reached the best (that is 600 W, i.e.blades are too small) with your setup, you can only reduce weight at this point.

Check www.cyclonbrushless.com for the Cyclon heli 4000. I ordered one. 4000 rpm/V, 120 gram, 400 watt continu.

Laurens,

According to the KC Spreadsheet the Heli 4000 is not a good choice.

Performance is worse than the Twist37 and the current draw is quite high (50A at 400W)

A better choice would be the Heli 2000 on 6S1P with the 14T or 15T pinions.

Originally I ordered the Cyclon 20, but that one seems to be underpowered too. I'm sure the Cyclon 20 will fly on 8 cells nicd/25 A.

I can't calculate which motor I need so I might be wrong.

For Reesy

I mean your battery gives a max power of :

2,1 A x 12C(optimistic-probably only burst) x 3,7 V (much optimistic during burst) x 6s = 560 W (real power is about 450-500W i think)

your motor is 770 W.
1520 is 570W.
1930 is 1150 W.

Your motor has not enough source power.
Al motors are giving max 500W.

Bawufa Law lol

Max power of an heli is the minimum between these 3 values :

max power of your battery
max power of your motor
max power manageable by your setup

Perfect setup comes when :

max power battery = max power motor = max power manageable by the lightest setup you can obtained using the biggest blades and max head speed avaiable

Numbers are always just numbers until you really try them out for real. The Eolo with the 1530 is a little underpower, and I wouldn't change the 1930 for any reason. TP batts specs suggest they can only deliver 25A, but I have seen bursts as high as 35A even on my T-rex running a smaller Lehner.
