Hi guys

I have recently rebuilt my heli and have made a few tweaks along the way to make the heli work better for me and the way I fly it. A few of my changes go against the grain so i thought I would post some pics to show what I have done and to get some feedback from other flyers.

my heli

Wider shot

All components - including Gyro mounted on top of glued down RX

top view of parts layout

Tail mounted servo and using old boom support ends as pivots - works well

Home made tail guard using a broken frame and an old RC car steering rod, I gos fed up of strippign gears when the tail hit the ground

Detail of how I cut frame and mounted Twister - I wanted to keep as much frame as poss for strength and to use the original mounts

Large diameter silocone tube used to hold canopy on

I hope these pics are of use to a few poeple and I look forward to your comments

Cheers

David

looks nice and clean. How did you attach the silicone tube?

I placed it on the end of a pencil, dipped it in CA and then held it on the casnopy where I wanted it - stay still for a few secs and you can pull the pencil out

Dont use zip-kicker on it or yr nice canopy paint will run

I really like the tail skid idea. The worry of hitting the tail on the ground was my only incentive to keep the verticle fin and thus the horizontal fin. Now I can get rid of them using your idea (they don't look too pretty anymore after being broke in about 4 different places.)

This is one of the parts I was looking for some feedback on - I have been flying now with no tail fin and I cant say I have noticed any difference

Do these birds need a tail fin and if they do how can you get away with using the carbon ones that are more hole than fin - surely they cant make much difference.

The fins will help the tail weathervane for FFF, but for 3D that's not desireable. The horizontal fin (at least the HeliUp one I have) does a good job of saving the boom if the blades fly too close to it

so it all went wrong...

....serves me right for showing off and putting pics of my heli on the internet:

from this

to this

What a bugger as it was just flyin nice - lookin like a new kit will be the most cost effective way to go so maybe I should wait and get the new 3D version

Anyone seen any more pics of the new 3D hornet?

I was doing some loops with some pauses at the top with negative pitch and I lost orientation and never got it back before it hit the dirt - I was being a bit cocky really

I will do a bit more practice on Reflex before I go out next

Cheers
