In building the Falcon 50 I could not come up with a location that I liked for the gyro, so I built a little platform out of 1/8 plywood. And mounted it directly in front of the aileron servo. What do you think? Sorry for the poor quality pictures.

Gyro Location

Thanks, for the pic's gforce

That's what I had in Mind, as a matter of fact that's the way I mounted
my 401 this morning.

That's funny, I mounted mine this morning also. I think it will work good. It is not as close to the main shaft as I would like to see it, but I did not want to mount it exposed to exhaust oil, so I need it inside the canopy. The only other place I could figure would be beside the throttle and collective servos inside the radio tray. But there it would have to be off center. So I went with building the little tray for it to sit on.

It would fit down inside that recessed area behind the aileron servo, in front of the main shaft. But I thought it would be hard to get out when needed. Anybody mounting it there?

Falcon gyro mount

I am trying to get access to a digi cam for pics of my Falcon setup but I had at one time mounted the GY401 on a tray right in front of the start shaft. I was tight but well protected. The only problem though was that I was getting some tail shakes that were not gain related.

So, I made mount that sits on top of the tail boom clamp area right behind the swashplate anti rotation bracket and it is working GREAT there.

GForce,
BTW, I am using the Minature Aircraft Pro Flex start system too. I can see your adapter sitting there on the start shaft.

Ya, I like the pro flex adapter. If the gyro mount up front does not work well I am going to mount it on top the tail boom clamp area also. That looks like a good area.

cool mod!

Hey gforce,

If the gyro has good clearance from the Canopy, I'd say go for it!

You don't want the canopy to be touching the gyro in flight. So put the canopy on, wiggle it around and see if it will touch the gyro.

If it doesn't, I'd say you're good to go! However, as a disclaimer, I've never tried what you just did, nor have I seen anyone else try it yet. So you are our first guinea pig. Let us know how it goes!

I like it though

Jimmy

I will be the pig from guinea. I still have to complete the canopy, so I will let you know if it does not clear.
