sweet...

started and ran nicely for the first flight. sounds great!

My flight monitor counted several radio glitches though I didn't notice while I was flying. Could be from the motors' first time running but I'm going to re-think my antenna positioning.

Overall, very nice maiden flight

consider a servo isolator from www.i4Cproducts.com

Cannot recommend it enough. You have a lot of $ there. Have not seen a glitch in a gasser since I started using these.

keepin' it real

Stet,

The isolator you link to seems a bit strange - it claims to mechanically isolate the servo ???? - do you know how it works?.

In any event, both batteries share a common ground which, in my experience, is where the noise can affect the receiver.

If you're going to have two batteries, it's much better to isolate the receiver completely with optocouplers.

I relocated the antenna, still have glitches recorded by my flight monitor. No percievable servo glitches during the flight. Perhaps I'll disconnect one battery and see what happens.. I have two plugged into the rx.

update...

Ok, I've been really slow getting this heli broke in. Besides my J.O.B. getting in the way... I had the flu, then a broken back, but I've FINALLY got a gallon through this bird and that's all it took for me to grow to love this heli! With only a gallon through it I can say it has VERY nice stable handling characteristics.

Had my stuff in a local home and recreation show and I guess I looked too professional. People were asking me where "we" were based out of and suprised to find out I was only 14 miles away

By the Way....

Found my radio glitch... you wouldn't have known it had one without the flight monitor. The nice tail cover for the boom was, at certain transitional rpm's, vibrating against the metal main frame. After some trimming... problem solved

Ethan..

Good to hear you found your glitch.. whew! Is that fairing plastic or ??? Kinda suprised that is what the issue was. What type of flight monitor are you using by the way? I think that maybe that would be a good investment.. hmmm...

About a week ago I crashed my GSR 260 (damage list : tail boom, tail rotor shaft, main blade, flybar rood, tail boom cover). I also suspect the source of the problem is the tail boom cover, it touches some part of the upper main frame. During tail in hover, suddenly the tail rotor servo was locked, followed by throtle and one of the CCPM servo, I couldn't control it at all. The g26 was just starting to run smooth (2 gallon).

doni,
Yikes! That doesnt sound good! Better do some checking myself! I noticed the canopy vibrates a little if the 2 side screws arent tight enough but other than that, it handles GREAT and I love it!

Ethan,
How in the world did you break your back? Also, have you repositioned your rx antenna?

The tail cover is made of fiberglass. I can't see how it could actually cause a crash unless it was REALLY knocking against the frame continously. There is not a lot of clearence between the main frame and the tail cover though.

I noticed a couple times my flight monitor beeped during spool up and it coincided with the tail cover vibration.

There are a couple easy fixes for this. You can just cut some of the material away where it's close to the frame or you can put some rubber padding where it might hit. Safer yet you can do both Once the motor smooths out some more it should be less of a risk too.

aambrose:

The canopy vibration won't hurt anything as long as you have your rubber grommets in place. I repositioned my antenna but it changed nothing.

I exaggerated about my back being broke, though it may as well have been. It was just badly out of place, I've never endured such pain before. Ever had a "charliehorse"? It was like that, only in my lower back for 3 straight hours last Friday morning... wound up in the emergency room getting shots. That was the peak of 2 week struggle. I fianlly got it straightened out properly last Monday, feel pretty good now.

Some of our 4 GSR's getting built

The frames needed a little work on one hole per side for the engine to mount up to every other part was perfect.

You have 4 of those things? Are you planning to make money with them? What engine you using?

Normally I love to build helicopters but 4 of them seems like alot of work.

Were useing the engine that comes with the kit then we send it off to a performance shop on the east cost, He polishes and ports them ballances the rotating parts and after he is done thay produce a full horsepower more.
Our company has just reopened this division, mostly for photography. Im the senior builder and piolet. My bird is set up with 250 round/min 4mm bb guns for warding off birds and other problem animals.
We run in to man teams, Piolet and gunner or piolet and photographer.

I've got an old "Biker Trash" t-shirt that I bought in Colorado years ago, and I believe they were made in Colorado. That's not you is it?

BTW, I fly a GSR for aerial work and they are a killer ship...

jr 10x radio glitches

On the 4 running birds we have thay all run the same radio equipment and are wired the same way. We have been experiencing glitches about 10 min in to a run. we broke down and connected some testing equipment. 2 4 channel sciopes. what we found was there was about 1000 to 23000 a/c volts distorting the pcm signals.

We had ran the antenaas down the tail. The tail rotor is isolated by carbon fiber and the static it was producing was beleved to have been jumping up the radio antenna.

We now rout our arials out through the canopy and there jhave been no further glitches.

Just thought Id share what we found.

Now if we can stop smoking the spur gears.
