My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I'm looking for a nice little e-heli to fly in the back yard and the parking lot at work. I don't need a 3D rocket ship, just something to have a little lunch time fun with. I had an Echo 8 some years ago and don't want to go that route again. Too fragile and too expensive to fix, if you can get parts. I actually purchased a Logo 10 but took it back before I opened the box. Motor and ESC combos are too hard to come by and expensive, expensive batteries, limited support and parts in the U.S. Not interested in micro helis either.

That leads me to the JR Voyager E. Small, reasonably priced, JR quality, comes with motor, esc, gyro and good support from Horizon. I realize that the can motors are not the best option but I can upgrade later to a brushless system.

Anyone here have experience with this cool little helicopter?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Voyager is a great little heli. I went directly to the brushless route with Hacker B40-8L and Kontronik 40-6-18, which makes this heli extremely capable. Mine can do stationary loops and rolls, all with stock blades too!

The head is a bit sloppy, which actually makes it more stable in hover than my Logo 10. I tend to fly it more often at local baseball diamond than my Logo due to its size and ease of battery replacement.

My only recommendation is to ditch the stock motor. It runs fine, but brush is very short lived, and will make your heli very dusty. It just adds to the frustration factor. If Horizon would sell the kit without the motor/ESC and lower the price, they would have a hit on their hand.

Parts are relatively cheap and easy to get, except for the tail blade grips. Because the Jr engineers decided to mold the bearing into these grips, replacements will cost you over $50!

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		If you get the Voyager you'll kick yourself for returning the logo. The truth is that the VE is a pain in the but in its stock form. The motor maint. is a pain, the heli is underpowered on 7 cells.
To really have fun with it you need a brushless motor and controller(hacker 8L or 9L) and a good speed controller, these two will cost almost as much as the heli. then you need at least three 10 cell battery packs(1700's 2400's or 3000mah nimh) and You'll want to get the most out of it all so you'll then get the carbon frames for around 50 -60 bucks. as you can see you should have kept the logo 10 as it didn't need all the upgrades to get the performance that you expect out of the box. You won't be happy with a stock voyager if you put any amount of time on it as you will be expecting more out of it, then you'll either sell it or upgrade.
I upgraded from the start and never even flew the stock setup and its a good thing too because I'm so used to the power/weight ratio of glow helis that even with the brushless setup it seems "scale ship sluggish" to me. So I keep it in the car and fire it up at a moments notice in a Walmart parking lot or anywhere. That is what it is used for, relaxing ,sedate flying. It will do some 3D but was not intended for that. I know you weren't asking specifically about 3D but I thought that I would throw it in anyway. My reccomendations for the VE are:

Carbon frames- FX aeromodels
420mm carbon blades- ms composite
3 hitec hs85 for ccpm-plastic gears
1 hitec hs81 for tail- plastic gears
Futaba gy240 gyro
Hacker motor-8L for power( 9L for duration)
Schulze speed controller(45He or The new Ho if it has BEC)
Three 10 cell battery packs as mentioned above

I am a relative newbie to the electric arena, I'm sure there are others that can give you more information. I did a lot of research before my purchase and the biggest plus with the VE is its small size, other than that I would get the logo in a heartbeat.

There is a very good deal on a Logo 10(has everything except Rx--it has a brushless setup), Eco 8(All the metal goods, electronics, and brushless setup), and a mechanically upgraded Voyager E.

I have an Eco 8 with the works and probably the most powerful brushless setup you can get(B50-11L, 16 tooth pinion, Kontronik 3SL 40-6-18 controller, and 10 cells). My helicopter is a rocket. Im also about to get a Logo 20, it should be here this week.

Oh, I hate to dig things up about the Voyager, but do you know about the head loading problem it has. The HS seems bog(even with powerful brushless setup) badly during loops. Well this is just what I have read.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I have a Voyager E on the fleet which I bought for all the right reasons.
However I had no idea it would be as poor as it is on the standard set up.

I hadn't figured on a full brushless set up just to end up with something that can hover for more than 3 mins with any sort of collective/cyclic power.

I would not be prepared to chuck more dollars at it unless I had the chance to see in advance what the results would be. My advice is to look into this very carefully indeed, or else you'll end up like me with a heli you can't use and you can't sell it to anyone else because you know how crap it is.

Would be delighted if someone from JR would pick up on this thread and shed some light on this... I mean what is the point of the Voyager e?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I have owned two Voyagers, and still fly the current one on weekly basis. With 10 cells driving Hacker B40-8L motor, it is a great performer, capable of aerobatics. Don't even bother with the stock motor, it is the one item in the kit that gives Voyager kit a bad name.

By the way, what you hear about head bogging down during aerobatic, low speed wobbles, and other issues are just from poor setup. You know the saying, a poorly setup XCell will not fly as good as a properly setup Raptor...

I'll see if I can borrow a camcorder and shoot some videos of mine flying so I can show you what I'm talking about.
