I think you just got a bad one, we havent had any problem with any Futaba servo`s yet (touch wood).
Before you say anything Craney, i know mine dont get much use

Had this happen to an S9254 this past fall....

Wire harness broke clean in-two. I was getting what appeared to be glitches affecting the tail rotor, and assumed the drive belt had loosened up a bit in my EVO. I bumped the wire harness while tweaking the belt tension...and the wire harness just popped out of the rubber grommet as if it had simply been plugged in.

Just had my 3rd 9254 fail this weekend, only been running this one for 3 months,, however this time the heli went into a pirorete whilst in a loop, wouldn't stop no matter what i tried. Hit the deck and made a hell of a mess.

It gets me as i don't have my gyro gain below 100, and the tail is mechanically setup correct, I guess i just have bad luck with these 9254's.

Total cost of this servo failure is around $400 USD in parts and electronics... all because of a dam servo.

When having a driven tail is a bad thing. Sorry about the crash. The 611 is out at any time, forcing the lemmings to bail out of their 601s, and buy the 611. In another week or so, 601s will be worth no more than two hundred dollars, possibly less. Keep an eye on HP site, as he is threatening a drastic price reduction. I would try another route, if I were in your situation.

Hi and thanks for your post, yep i do think i am going the 601 route this time round, and i have been keeping a close eye on the price of the 601's as i do feel sure they are
going to go down in price, only a little time will tell.

All the best

I had my 9254 fail on saturday but it's lasted easily a couple years and about 4 crashes so that's not too bad.

It does seem strange that this servo seems to have good reports and bad reports on how long it lasts, or doesn't. I've not seen anything on other servos causing so much of a problem, as people have mentioned it is an expensive servo. But more to the point i know IMHO i am now scared of using this on any heli in the future, for the fear of failure and not knowing when it may happen. Especially as the worst case senario is a crash from it, I realy have no problem with crashing, so long as it's my piloting skills but when a servo packs in which costs a lot now that bugs the hell out of me.

Just a thought.. Any one planning to use the 8700g will have to go PCM cause its a PCM only servo..

I've got a 6v regulator and used the CSM560SL with the
9253 last year and the 9254 this year.

I switch the gears out once or twice a season, or when they
feel not smooth by _slowly_ rotating the servo arm.
The gear sets are the same for 9253 and 9254 if anyone is wondering.

If you're actually burning up the servo, its time to check the linkages
for binding friction etc... also check to see that there's a slight bit of
pitch offset at neutral to compensate for hovering torque etc...

I'm sure it's all in the manual.
